VCT Burnishing to Increase Life and Durability?

So, I've been working on my "retirement shop" for the last couple of years (wife says it is a retirement shop because that is when I'll have it done) and I've just laid down VCT because of its durability and price.

I scrubbed and laid down 4 coats of Spartan ishine with a microfiber flat mop. It isn't a perfect application, but it will suffice. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle again of renting equipment, scrubbing, rinsing, squeegee-ing slurry, and stripping every year so I was wondering if a one time burnish now would increase the life and durability so I don't have to do this again anytime soon...like years.

Also, I would like to know if burnishing is something a novice can do...that's even if I can find a high speed burnisher in the area to rent.

In my area, that’s why people used to rent me. They still do, but like you I’m not easy to hire. You can burnish your floor to give it longer life.
Years, possibly if not abused. If even normal wear, it can get you a couple years. Keep it clean
by removing spills and debris reasonably quick. Common sense. Use neutral cleaner only in water to mop. Actually, you can rent the same machine and buff residue from mopping off with a white pad. It will work.

Yea, I didn't have any luck getting someone to come out and do this small residential space. So, I was left doing it myself. I do understand why.

I can't seem to find a machine for rent around here that is faster than 175 and from what I've read here it needs to be in the 1500 to 2000 range to burnish?

Try looking on Craigslist. Sometimes you can find one with caked on stripper and wax for cheap. Use it the resell it. Free rental!

I'm currently looking for a sewing machine. Time to learn how to make car upholstery so @FredC doesn't make fun of me.

This was the only thing I could find close to you in quick search.

I wouldn’t worry about it much. If you do what I told you, it’ll last. The most you might have to do
is scrub it with a red pad and redcoat it with one coat of finish in a year or so. Or just buff with the 175 and a white pad. You’ll be good. Best to you

Adult me:

Or install nylon carpet tiles over it.
