Voltage regulator question

This Spitfire 4.0 i'm messing with has a bad voltage regulator and the Hydromaster owners manual says its "modified" but the local small engine shop said it's BS that the regulator tests just the same as any other 20 amp regulator.

So my question is, is the Regulator that comes on the 20hp Vanguard from Hydromaster really modified or is it just hype. Through Hydromaster the thing is twice the price as the local shop...

I had the 3.2 and just used standard Briggs parts if they needed. Sorry, not really answer for you.

Thats what i'm wondering because the shop said its just a standard part but the owners book says its not.
