What's involved with mantaining the Vortex truck?? How often for oil changes, can you do it your self....any other maintenence involved?? I was talking to Jim Pem about pricing on one......I'm tired of slide-in TM's.

Plus, I need more room for all the crap I haul around wit me.

one mine....................

every 50 hours I charge the softener..(this is a option pending the kind you get)
at the 50 hour mark.I also grease the fittings and check all the fluids......

the therm oil I use is every 600 hours or once a year......(just checked on this last week and ordered 5 gallons it time to change )

the cat pump I change mine every 300 hours..(personal preference)

the blower...when I first got this I took it in to check and service it

it was in great shape but I elected to go a head and change the blower oil.......They told me it would last up to 5000 hours ( ).........

I check it every 300 and so far it is still in great shape and is holding up ..so we will see...

After that first check up........all the above I change and do myself...
no since and paying someone to do this.it is all real easy...

the UD ............... I have a great mechanic that services it.....
it gets taken care of just like my Chevy van did........I just don't have to do it as often..........

as with every machine and truck(van) out there.....service is cheap..breakdowns aren't and it is easy to stay on top of them

So for me because I do all my own machine service.and I don't have to do the UD as often as I had to do the other van .it is cheaper for me

also speaking of service..............

I am thinking about putting one of these oil drain plugs on my therm oil so all I have to do is push on a hose and open the drain port...

less mess and easy to drain into a bucket

do you think they will hold up to the heat....
this is the type they put on a oil pans

really easy to work on the tilt forward cab makes oil changes engine inspections nice...i wish all my vehicles where tilt forward. The cat pump oil was kind of annoying i used a wet vac suck the oil out of the drain tube even that wasn't bad. Fuel filter is right next to the fuel tank not buried in or under the engine compartment like many vehicles, there's plenty of room to get under the truck to greasing the drive shafts and inspect the PTO

Steve when do you pick yours up ....are you sleeping at night :D

Jim,
Fram sells a product called "Sure Drain". It is designed for oil changes and replaces your stock drain screw. They may have one that size, here they are sold at Auto Zone. All you do is screw in a small hose that comes with it and the oil comes right out. The "Sure Drain" doesn't have a handle that can be accidentally opened or begin to drip. It has a screw on cap to protect it.

Ebay Item number: 290184130889 - There's different sizes

I would go with the Kinetico softener, ease of use, just my preferance.

Is the V blower now a "dual splash", instead of grease fittings??

on the 7000 it is dual splash, no fittings, I was told that they are not getting requests to make the 6008 so can't answer that question.

I requested a quote for a 6008 but Lorraine wasn't sure if they were even set up to make one and didn't seem to know if it came with things such as the padded floor

Randy,
I fly down on November 29th. Not to excited yet. Probably get there after the drive home. I think I sold my van so now I have to rent the CDS from JonDon for a few days.

Went crabbing yesterday and clam digging today. Crabbing was a death wish waiting to happen but me and Hagen braved the elements
