I have had the oppurtunity to work with multiple carpet cleaners over the course of my career. It seems that i have recieved a lot of different opinions regarding this topic. I believe that it is unprofessional to leave a bunch of diamond shaped wand marks behind and it can also look like you are trying to hide something I always rake out!. Please give me your opinion on this.

Very unprofessional. Anyone that says their customer likes it is making an excuse for their laziness.
Sad to be so delusional! :winky:

The only ones who care about wand marks are fellow OCD cleaners.
Most clients do not give a hoot about it.
  1. If the client cares about it- Do it.
  2. If you care about it- Do it.
  3. If you, god knows why, seek MB approval- Do it.
  4. If you were/are an IICRC committee member that somehow needed to justify all the money you were making for doing practically nothing- Ask cleaners to do it.
Please let us know if you need more options :winky:
Or better yet- Do it.

I’m too lazy to groom, but I also don’t want to look like every other rug sucker out there. So I refuse to make those triangle shapes. I just pull the wand straight back.

Now you know why Desky does it:
  1. If you, god knows why, seek MB approval- Do it.

....and the fact that last time he did, some here were but a glimmer in their parents' eyes.

I leave wand art only on rental turnovers so they can't deny I've been (went through patch where property managers were questioning if I'd been cause it was dry the next day when they inspected? :dejection:)

No I don't post spot it messes up the art form lol

I groom on all occupied

I groom for a couple reasons
-most cleaners don't which alone is a good reason to do it (anything that can make me stand out)
-I like to leave the carpet as close to *just installed* appearance as possible
-when I see pictures of before and after with the Christmas Tree lines, I can still see the dirt. If you groom, you are showing the customer exactly what the carpet looks like - ie that you did a tremendous job
-grooming actually lifts the nap which will make the carpet dry faster.
-im anal about my workmanship so that's probably the main reason.

As a sidenote, when we used HOST back in the day, we vacuumed in Christmas Tree fashion to hide the spots we could not get out.

I'm struggling for Arts sake!

Leaving clean lines is no faster or slower imo but doesn't matter either way if your grooming
