We had a bit of a fire in the office

A couple of nights ago we had a bad thunder and lightning storm.

I could something weird in the office but couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from that smelled like electrical fire burning.

Today our surge protector and battery backup unit started making beeping sounds.

I went and bought a couple new battery backup surge protectors today.

Plugging in the new ones I discovered where the fire was.

The surge protector took a good hit and did start on fire.

We even have crispy carpet in that area.

We feel very lucky it did not keep going

Put your new one on a metal cart or shelf, away from combustibles.

Or stick a few porcelain tiles underneath them if they have to sit on the floor.

Wow---lucky..

Years ago I went to laptops with HDMI cables to a monitor and remote keyboard. The laptop is always plugged in and acts as a backup power supply and power controller.
