What do you expect?

I have a question for you successful moguls. I expect to find dirty carpet, traffic lines, spots and pet zones. I expect hair, dust, a few pieces of furniture to be moved and vacuuming to be essential. I expect smells and to use an odor cide of some sort. I expect all of these things and roll them into my per foot price. Evidently, the Big Hose Company charges extra for all the items above.

For example, a “deodorant” costs $200 extra on a $300 job, as quoted to today’s booking.

Do you do it all, or do you charge extra for the things you routinely expect at each job? I can’t tell if I am chump or a saint.

I expect to get paid for the amount of work I do. If my base price for a 1 bedroom apt is $150 and I expect that it will take aprox. 1 hour to clean, if it is so soiled that it takes me 2 hours to clean, I am going to charge a little more. I usually remove stains included in the quoted price but if they'e massive stains or urine contamination, I will charge more. If it costs me more then it should cost you more.

not sure who the "Big Hose" outfits are, but many don't charge enough going in.
so the need to push hi-profit add ons is part 'n parcel of every job

we charged enough that we could clean "right" without having to nickel and dime the custy to death

It's certainly appropriate to charge more for some situations though (and we did)
example, a couple/three softball size red stains vs dozens
Filtration soil under doors or next to return register vs hundreds of lineal ft at base boards throughout
General deo vs urine restoration/salvage attempts

most furniture in lving rooms were moved and replaced
but additional charges "may apply" for wall to wall in bedrooms with large chests, mirrored dressers etc.
and often declined to move many beds period, due to type, construction and/or condition

Following..... my market is saturated with hacks...... people don’t have high expectations..... doing a little extra goes a long way around here....

There's a difference between nickel and dime-ing your client and providing extra work. I do not charge for spotting, working on some stains, reasonable furniture moving etc.

I do charge extra for service that requires extra work. If deodorizing is needed I'll charge for it. But deodorizing is not a glug of perfume into the rinse jug. That's called- "Stinking the joint". It means locating the problem, cleaning some areas prior to applying the correct deodorizing product, spray application, at least 15 minutes of dwell time and a good rinse. In some situations it means cleaning, deodorizing and rinsing again. It takes me longer and they pay for it.

It all comes to how you prefer to price or bundle your service and what you feel comfortable with. So far, all clients I have dealt with understood and had no problem paying more for an added service.

I only charge extra for protector. I've become a super hero among middle age mom circles for always charging what I quote on the phone. I would rather work a few minutes for free if necessary than lose my super hero status.
