AAAHHHhhh... I might as well admit it, the episode happened over 35 years ago.
At a VERY rich customer's home in Beverly Hills, I had to move a dresser to clean under it.
To lift the end and swing it around, I opened a drawer. Inside the drawer was full of black cashmere socks. Brand new, label still attached.
I moved the dresser, and closed the drawer. Not much temptation there, but yes, I did admire REAL CASHMERE SOCKS.
To move the dresser back after cleaning under it, I opened the drawer above the first one. Full of USED BLACK CASHMERE SOCKS. I moved the dresser back, and tabbed the legs.
These days, I carried my spotters and towels and tabs in a 3 gallon bucket.
When I drove away, at the bottom of my 3 gallon bucket, under the towels and other items, was a pair of used REAL CASHMERE SOCKS.
I LOVED these socks. They were warm, comfortable, and lasted for years.
I have no idea how much they cost new, and have never shopped in a store where they were sold.
One case of giving into temptation in over 40 years of going into customer's homes and offices.
