What is KCI and why do they manage the IICRC

I'm outta the loop now but KCI used to be Kenway Mead's company before he retired. They were hired to administrator IICRC. Since Kenway retired, Tom Hill and Associates have taken the reigns as the management group. I am uncertain if Hill bought KCI or is managing under his own company now. Maybe Jim Pemberton can enlighten us.

Kenway Consultants, Inc. (KCI), the IICRC’s
administrative firm located in Vancouver, Wash.,
manages the day-to-day needs of the IICRC. During
the past six months, KCI has been working on annual
Certifi ed Firm renewals and establishing a
new Certifi ed Firms only section on www.IICRC.org.
Firms can now download
the 2008 Certified Firm kit that includes
press release templates, high-resolution
logos, standard order forms and a special
standard pricing list for Certified Firms
– plus access to other useful resources.
A new upgraded referral search
program is in the works for the consumer
Web site, www.CertifiedCleaners.org, and is slated for
activation in the fi rst half of 2008. Working with the
e-Media Committee, KCI will add new features to the
Certifi ed Firm search function to capture consumer
contact information and increase the number of Certifi ed
Firms that appear during a search, as opposed to the
current fi ve.
Each month, KCI processes an average of 2,000
certification exams (22,509 in the last year) and an
average of 3,750 technician registrant renewals each
month. To keep up with the growing demand, KCI
continues to hire staff to better serve IICRC registrants.
Recently, KCI added Jimmy Whitaker in the Certifi ed
Firms department to aid in the renewal of Certifi ed
Firms, link technicians registrants to fi rms, verify
liability insurance information and issue new certifi cates.
IICRC certifi cation courses continue to serve the
cleaning and restoration industry, providing valuable
information and training techniques. As of the printing
of this newsletter, KCI is still processing exams from
2007; but through the end of November 2007, 1,566
IICRC certifi cation classes were held throughout the
United States. Overall, from the 1,566 classes, 22,500
students completed an IICRC certifi cation exam and
19,724 passed (88 percent) – an outstanding number for
the year. The courses that were most frequently taken by
registrants include:
• Water Damage Restoration Technician, with 408
classes;
• Carpet Cleaning Technician, with 358
classes;
• Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician, with
155 classes; and
• Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technician,
with 142.
KCI looks forward to continuing to serve the needs
of the IICRC and its registrants in 2008.

I am not fully sure, he is still on my voice mail. Believe it or not I had a complaint about the processing of test results. I was waitng for my Master textile results(well the test that would make me a amaster) and it took quite a while and when i asked when it would be done I kept getting hung up on. I complained and he left me a message to call, needless to say I am still waiting for the results but I thought it was good he called

I know some will dispute what I say but I've always found Tom to be a good guy. He's tough, doesn't take BS well, but he's always been a good guy. The last time I was at IICRC HQ (~4 yrs ago) there were about 16 employees and all were good. Unless things have dramatically changed, I can't imagine them purposefully hanging up on anyone.

How long has it been since you took the test? I saw the test-grading process and it is quite detailed. If I recall correctly the average processing time takes about 6 weeks.

I suggest calling Lindsay or Rebecca, if they're still there. You won't find two more dedicated and great employees than them. If they're not there any more give Barry Lichtenstein a jingle. Even though test results aren't his jurisdiction, he'll get it done.

Maybe it was a fluke. I am not complaining about them I was just wonering what the deal was. He was kind enough to call me.

My question was an easy one. It was will it take longer to process because the instructor forgot to bring the test and had printed one from his laptop and photocopied it.

But I wasn't complaining about this. I just found out it is KCI and I didn't know what KCI was

6 Weeks to process a test? Come on Scott this is 2008, anything more than 10 seconds, plus mailing time seems absurd!!!!!!! What am I missing?
