I heard a while back about just how little upholstery ever gets cleaned, anyone remember the actual number?

I would bet 2-3% well at least out of my custy's. If I simply asked them if they wanted me to clean it I could probably bring it up to 6%, maybe.

I clean for only two real estate agents.

Over the last 3-4 years, I have talked them into not only getting their carpets cleaned, but also any mattresses, lounge and dining furniture.

They also stipulate on the rental agreement that upholstery covers are not to be washed, and any shrinkage due to washing will result in the tenant being charged for new covers.

They both pay top dollar for my services.

With my regular/repeat customers, most have their upholstery cleaned at least every second time the carpet is done, some have it done each time.Of my regulars, a lot also have their mattresses cleaned yearly.

Talk to your customers, tell them what you do and how much healthier it is to have their furniture cleaned on a regular basis, as well as keeping the furniture looking cleaner.

Educate your customers.

Upholstery cleaning has always been a major part of my business.

Sorry Mike, I don't have any reliable information on the subject.

The percentage is surely much less than carpet.

Only about 10% of the upholstery that comes into close contact with people's smelly holes, ever gets cleaned... now there's an opportunity for growth?

I always wondered why I would gag about 2 pm in the summer with fermented waste water from upholstery, sure has a unique odor.

That's what I tell my customers, seems to work. You have to put it a way that makes them want to clean it. How long would you leave a towel on your sofa before you cleaned it? My market isn't usually about money but rather just a good reason to spend it.

It's good that you give them a good reason to spend it. I don't have a sofa but I get your point. I do get grossed out when going to the movies. Just don't lay your head back and it's all good.
