in this economy he can't ask for to much, lots of people willing to work hard for less than usual.

I believe the norm is 10-15% even when they are solo, most companies out there in this industry or not pay employees 10% than they go higher depending on how the employee proves to you they are good and trustworthy.

How did you come across a helper?

he was getting %14 working with a helper and %25 solo. is this too much ?

Depends on how long you want the guy to stay with you. If he gets comfortable being paid a little more, there is less likely a chance he will leave.

Pay him too little and he may get sick of it.

Really depends on the tech.

Would you rather pay 20% of an average invoice of $200.00 (you get $160.00) or
Would you rather pay 25% of an average invoice of $300.00? (you get $225.00)

Math is math.

If the tech is getting a higher invoice you should pay him more and it will be a win win for him AND a win win win for you.

Tell him you will start him out at one percentage and if he brings in more money then he will get a higher percentage.

Incentives either way.

Listen to Brian. Also consider calling him a Specialist, not a helper especially if he is going to be running the truck.

You can also, have a percentage for the starting invoice and a higher percentage for any sales. That way you both win!

Upsales are good to have higher percentages but I find it's easier and works better for both if you have one that covers everything.

There will be less mistakes and I think that it just feels better from the Tech point of view...been there.

When I worked as a Tech (for two different companies at two different times) The highest I was paid was 30%. I'll tell ya, I worked my ass off when I new how much my pay would grow from every little sale that I did.

After expenses on the owners part, I felt like I was making more money than him...probably was.
The idea with employees is to make your money a little bit off of every truck (or Tech). You have to have more running of course but you get the idea.
