Not up to date on what solvent is available for the consumer in supermarkets or hardware stores these days.

It used to be: 'Carbona'; 'K2R', 'Energine', and 'Spot Shot.'

I need to tell clients the names every once in a while.

What are the names of currently available solvents (for the comsumer) that are a non-residual (dry) solvent.
The delimonine ones are residual.

Thanks

Goof-Off is readily avaliable and is an excellent dry solvent. Xylene based, it is the real deal. Not the citrus solvent one.

Thanks Art,
I always thought GoofOff was delimo, evidently not.
I just checked the MSDS sheet.
Very flammable, but I assume all dry solvents are.
Do you have good experience with it? I know that some people complained about SpotShot.

Goof off is some really strong stuff.
Open the bottle and give it a whiff.

I would say it would be professional use only on carpet.
Mrs. Piff would likely pass out if she tried using it.
The aerosol can clear out a room.

Are we talking only about the aerosol
or also this: http://www.goofoffstainremover.com/wher ... rpet-stain

and would the spray one be as noxious?
Will it still work well on grease (mechanical grease)?

Never knew they had so many products.
The "Heavy Duty" is the one in the spray bottles, I think it's a newer version.
I'm used to the old school "Goof Off Professional" aerosols and little cans.
Based on the MSDS, the " Goof Off Professional" is different than the "Heavy Duty", containing acetone and some other yummy stuff. The acetone is probably one of the ingredients that make it smell so strong.

I would steer a customer to the heavy duty, and keep the professional for the professionals.
Never used the heavy duty, so I don't know how it compares.

I would make sure you tell every customer you tell about Solvent to ONLY use it applied with a towel. I could see somebody pouring it directly onto the Carpet.

Around here, Goof-off was given to a lot of new home buyers in a "welcome" bucket from the builders. I tell people to use it at their own risk - it will dissolve the glue that holds the carpet together. Don't put it on the carpet, put it on a towel and blot. Everyone that is brave enough to use it, says it works like magic.

We sell this with the given explicit instruction to use only by applying with a towel, cute tip, or eye dropper. We've always had some on the install van since the product came out.

Though I see that guardsmen has changed it to "dry cleaning solvent" instead of afta.

I always have some on the truck. It's main use is as an excellent latex paint remover but also handy when you need a dry solvent. It WILL delaminate carpet so don't pour it on. The aerosol version is handy and keeps the volume of product down. The drip can version could also be good for consumer use.
