What's the truth with Carpet "Sanitizer"?

Cleaning does a great deal to make a place "healthier" for the owners, occupants, etc. Application of a disinfectant in its role as a sanitizer does "something", but its not measurable. Even the term "sanitizing" is vague versus "disinfecting".

Make sure you read the label, use the product exactly according to directions, and remember that you are applying a sanitizer, not "sanitizing" the carpet.

You'll be spending a lot of time trying to answer to things your customers see advertised. Try not to get into a dispute over what others do, just reinforce to them what you do, and what you feel is in their best interests.

If they have trusted you a long time with their cleaning needs, that should be enough.

Last point: Don't show up looking like you need to be sanitized yourself.....:eekk:

Sage advice.... when this pandemic was in its infancy, you were my first consultation.

no doubt you’ve had hundreds since, but your perspective reinforced my position that that ’sanitizing’ is TSA theatre at best

despite my underselling of its value, I have acquired several accounts that have displaced a percentage of our residential cleaning volume in spite of my less than ambitious claims of efficacy

its amazing how much they want you when you aren’t interested 😂

Same, my commercial accounts that wanted it were practical enough not to place much importance on it.

They wanted it as they were essential services, and wanted to provide "some peace of mind" to staff

And they could show they were doing extra if/when local government did spot audits

All it took was reaching out and asking if our regular essential companies needed assistance

We displaced the regular custodial service in one account due to our proactive approach

It used to be hard to market a service for an unseen problem

I pulled out of meth decon work few years back, because even though the lab results could show contamination. It was sometimes hard to convince the landlord that they needed $5-10k of decon work when they couldnt see it

We were already doing it for flu in our schooIs. I assure you it’s not theatre. They don’t pay me for mind games. Of course, I’m not trying to sanitize carpet. Actually I could care less about carpet. I’m hitting all surfaces high and low.

some reading

great article. Another cleaner just put Sanitizing Carpet in his ad in a coupon book so most certainly I will get questions about this. I will print out copies of this article and highlight the key sentences to give the client. That way I wont feel like Im trying to explain what this is all about, I will have something from industry experts to back me up.

THANK YOU for posting this.
