What's this in my Flash Cuff?

I remember someone a while ago posting about a ring that would come loose from the Flash Cuffs. I'm really happy with the performance of mine so far but I did notice this today. It's down inside the large, female part of the cuff and it is coming loose. I can't really figure out what it does but thought someone on here might have some incite...or a snide comment. ;-)

My guess is for a better seal but after ours came out we seen no difference and herd no air hissing.
