The electron microscope photo was used to illustrate how difficult it is, to penetrate the fiber bundle with a water-based fluorochemical protector (film former) . It is not showing soil protection.

I have seen some photos with a competitive water-based protector after drying . . .
but it is non-uniform in the coating.

P.S. Synthetic oil without additives smells better than conventional oil.
