Got about 2500 hours on a Cat 3CP. It's working fine now.

When should these be rebuilt? Do they go out suddenly or gradually? What are the warning signs?

What's needed for a rebuild? I see a check valve kit and a seal kit on Jon-Don's website.

Much obliged,

John

I would not worry about it till it "Leaks Oil" "Drips Water" or "Looses Pressure or Flow"
Many get 5000 hours before touching them.

i have over 8k and it still has the same seals. i did melt the low pressure retaining caps somehow blowme
Kevin is right , leave it alone. I'm all about preventative but they really seem to last as long as only water is flowing thru it.

Suppose to replace the plungers at 1200 hours as a maintenance thing

Dultmier supply is about half of suppliers on pump parts btw. I dont do anything on pumps unless they are showing signs of failure. If there is no oil, or water leaks and the pump is pumping correctly then I leave it alone. Why screw with stuff that isn;t broken?

Cuz i don't want it goin out on me in the middle of a job.

If sudden failure is not likely, I won't worry about it.

The people telling you that are the ones selling (profiting) from their replacement.

Exactly my point. Who is making those parts? Cat.
I have old cat literature here that states cat is a 5000 hour pump with just changing the oil.
