That is the way I think about it.

CRB if you have more money than sense. Sure it does a great job of agitation but its not as effective as a stand alone system as other tools. So if you have money falling out your pockets like @dealtimeman, then sure blow $2,500.00 on a preconditioning tool.

Otherwise choose something that is capable of higher production numbers and more effective results.

I have to disagree with you about your crb statement.. I've had very good success using a CRB(strong) encapping residential carpets and on commercial carpets.

The cimex is a great machine but that means there would be two rotary machines on the van.. the crb uses a different style of cleaning action on the carpet which is always nice and beneficial to have.

Most tools in our industry are way over priced.. look at the multisprayer.. its just a piece of rotomolded plastic with a pump in it and retails for over $500. A wand, which is mainly a tube can cost over $1000.

Stanley Steemer got it right when they stuck their middle finger up to that BS and just started making their own stuff. Funny a company that uses homemade machine (which we call a hack) that also ends up being the most successful company in this industry.. a good quote to best illustrate this is.. "squeal like a pig boy".. we all know its true too.

Great stuff! I'm surprised that a CRB/Zip doesn't match an RE. I only say this because I've used my CRB with great effect at lifting pile and removing copious amounts of crap.

In my experience for time wise.. the crb/wand combo takes about the same time as using my 15 inch rotary, not sure if the zipper will save you time because you would still have to use a wand for the areas the zipper can't do.

I will edge with the wand on most all jobs when breaking out the rotary and don't post wand.. no need to.

Unless your running high psi or got a sh!tty TM, you don't need to post wand.... Or if you don't own a nap brush, I'd heard about guys who post wand to groom out the swirl marks....

I based all my comments on you having access to/using your VLM scrubbers... Yes a crb will pull more hair/debris out than just a vacuum, but a vacuum and RE should be enough to not warrant vac, crb, RE.... Hell I'm considered a slow cleaner as it is.... If it's a real sh!t hole, I wouldn't even subject my vacuum to it...

A CRB is great for digging and the Zipper will do a great job of rinsing it out. However the RE lifts up traffic areas unlike any other tool. In fact "you're a fool to do without this tool!"

Seriously it is a "must have". You are at a competitive disadvantage without one.

Brent it really work just like a wand. The 15-inch is what we have, just got our second one yesterday.

You can get all edges and thresholds. Air vents will need a wand or stair tool but really its not a hassle to use at all.

It would for commercial work but residential you need both the Zipper & the RE.

I went out and cleaned yesterday the AM job was 600sq/ft family room frieze carpet that was really ground in near the recliners. RE kicked its tail. Bed room was berber and the Zipper cleaned it effortlessly and left it very dry.

Second job was supposed to be a master bed room a few chairs and pickup rugs. Millionaire's home, they were out of the country and the house manager walked us through. Master bed room was a huge oriental rug, cleaned the upholstery and Zippered the oriental rug and a large walk-in closet. The Zipper made easy work of the rug and I felt comfortable there about working on the hardwood floor.

You just have to have both!

Rich, you are so right to use the Zip on orientals. It works great with fast drying because of awesome water recovery. Yeah, my guys are always doing orientals on hardwood floors. Scares the shit out of me but they do it all the time problem free. Zipper can help here.

Can not agree my friend. The CRB is a great tool for scrubbing prespray and has a good cross over range. You can also use it to scrub tile or apply encap. We use Rick's (Excellent Supply) 15" unit. The CRB and RE both pull out a ton of crap, but the RE can be to aggressive for some carpets. The RE is a must have tool but the CRB is great when the RE is to much or not needed through out the job. That's what I think beach!
