Whicking / Sand

Just a quick question, I live in drought strickend CA & sometimes have major sand in the carpet (see photos), what vacuum would you recommend? I'm leaning towards a Shark (with foam filters as I believe a bag vacuum will just plug up) - the amount of sand in last night's job is ridiculous.....ty

The Shark and Dysons have great brush roll agitation but not super great suction

A Kirby, Royal or Sanitaire would be my choice for Sand removal< Royal being the top choice.

The Shark would last about 6 months at best. Its the Bic lighter of vacuum.

I suppose if I get a Royal - I'll be changing the bag daily then with the amount of sand & soil we have here......

How heavy is that canister vac? Im going to get one for uph and stairs. Does it have great suction?

One vacuum for limited space.

Buy extra foam filters swap and wash them every 2-3 days.

Any of the above will work for sand extraction, but I think Royal Commercial or Kirby will do a better job. Also, sand is abrasive and metal components will handle sand better than plastic.

I have always used Sanitaire 16" upright and add accessory magnet strip to front and only for my commercial work and empty houses and apartments. The magnet picks up nails, paper clips etc.
I have a different vacuum for residential homes. In my case it was another sanitaire but the 14 inch with light. I am looking at the new and improved Animal by Dyson for my residential work now though.

I can get up to 8 jobs in that "sack"

I love the Sanitaire but the belt issue is so bad I had to stop using them..

The belt was always a weak point so we had extra belt figure eighted around handles. The big magnet was very helpful for move outs though. Does the Royal have the magnet accessory?

Royals use a inch wide FLAT belt that it good for at least 20 jobs, unlike the 20 feet the POS Sanitaires are good for.

Unless someone else is making their belts now I would get a solid week cleaning empty apartments in Isla Vista...lots of sand... lol. So around 30 trashed apartments before a belt change. :-) Maybe the belts are much worse now? I have a Sanitaire here at home and no issues. So even if I do end up getting a Royal this time... definitely no tattoo

That's what I was thinking, I have a 60 gallon fresh water tank & a hose reel, it's just tight in there. I really don't have room for 2 vacuums....the Shark has attachments and I won't have to hoist a metal vacuum in & out daily.....

I used to have a magnetic strip on a Sanitaire. You buy them separately. Can be attached to a Royal, but the rubber bumper needs to be removed or reconfigured.

If I were you, I'd pick up that Royal from Jondon. The price on it is AWESOME. When I bought my Royal, it was at a vacuum shop, and I paid dearly for it, $500.

It's a much Better deal at Jondon than that little shop I bought mine from

The Royal brushes are adjustable so that is a good feature. Adjust them down as they wear. OK Maybe I will get the tattoo! :-)
