I know 10 years ago it was roughly women aged 40-75. I've been out of the loop for a while due to health and other issues and considering getting back in.

However, a lot has changed in a short period of time. Divorce is at an all-time high of nearly 70%. Woman aren't getting married until they are in their late 20's or early 30's.. depending on when they feel they've established themselves in their career and/or financially and don't need a man to take care of them. Obviously, this means, IF they have children it is much later in life, if at all. pets are replacing kids in a lot of relationships... which is good for us in some respects.

I'm just wondering if you veteran cleaners can share your perspectives on the changes in our market demographics, if there is any noticeable change beyond the decline of wall to wall carpet being replaced by hardwood and/or tile debate.

Thanks,
Capt. M

Focus on the elderly... There is a steady growing number of them. Especially with the baby boomers coming to be 60 65 now. Society in average age in general is getting older.

That's what I do. Focus on well to do retirement communities and know that most of those people won't complain about a couple hundred bucks per year.

If you are "clean cut", speak nice and no ghetto English or redneckian, if you are not tattooed head to toe and can dress decently... You will have a nice relationship building... with the older generation that is more prone to appreciating the old school way of things.
Once you're "in", you can branch out to all their families and friends by word of mouth. Which is relatively cheap advertisement.

Thanks Zee. What types of things have you done to focus or market to the 60+ customer?

I guess I'm squeaky clean by today's standards.. I bathe daily, don't wear my hair long, have all my teeth, don't smoke, drink, have tattoo's and not a felon either. I'm pretty much the poster boy of wholesomeness.

Can you share what you do?
Thanks,
Capt.

There's nothing wrong with redneckian....in the right setting.

The same way as there is nothing wrong with being inked head to toe..... In the right environment. But don't be surprised if there is a serious rejection while trying to sell your services.

Not sure where you are... But if you have mobile parks, don't be afraid getting in there. Around here they're 95% retired people.
Hit up the retirement communities around your area.
