I thought that optical brighteners were fazed out back in the early 90's.
I remember back in the 80's guys would advertise the benefits of optical brighteners and charged accordingly.

Optical brighteners are not used in our industry in most cases. You still may find some in upholstery products. We discontinued its use over ten years ago. However, they are used in abundance in laundry products. When phosphate was regulated away from use, optical brighteners were increasingly added to give a fake clean trying to replace the great rinsing of phosphates. Clothes still look clean but they are not as clean as the anti-redeposition of soils from phosphates no longer occur. I would no longer advise long wash cycles as the soils released have time to get re-attached to the clothes.

Years ago, to see if I could improve, ONE TIME, on crappy stuff.

I purchased some of the powdered optical brightener, from , I think americolor.

tested it on a bunch of samples. You know applied to the practice pieces, on one half. for the life of me , looking at it after dry, in sunlight, there was no difference.

Called me at with a price 80 percent lower at least.
Saying I'm gonna give you this account.
An when your finished use ob's.
My answer was this call is finished .
Go f yerself...
Needless to say this was the old arrogant version of me .
But on that issue if asked today.
The reply I surmise would be close but no profanity...
Just an amusing line an a klik goodbye
