I know that for a 17 inch machine you should use a 15 inch brush - but does anybody know why?

Would like to use a 13 inch brush with my 13 inch machine. I want to be able to agitate tile as close as possible to cabinets, etc.

Would a 13 inch brush put too much stress on the motor?

Thanks.

The block will be 15". The bristles will stick out an inch around the housing.
Unless you have a riser or Pad driver.

Ray is correct, you can use a bigger block/brush on most machines if you use a riser to keep the block below casing of the scrubber. I have a small 12" machine set up like this and having the brush a little wider than the machine does scrub edges but it can also sling solution a bit more.

I used the riser just for the reason you said. I like to be right up to the edges. All my pads are bigger than the drive block. I like bonnets to climb the baseboard a little.
