The finished product oftentimes looks different to the one who cleaned it. A week ago my son put a video on FB of him cleaning a white sofa that was chocolate brown before cleaning. It had a rather tall nap to it that made the freshly cleaned white fabric look dirty depending on the nap direction. He was proud because he saw how much dirt he’d removed, but I’m certain many thought it looked terrible. He isn’t ignorant, and he’s a good cleaner. He just saw it differently because of his perspective.

Laziness, ignorance, or the belief that “shark teeth” on upholstery is something appealing

Upon further review...as the pattern is distinct an therefore intentional, my first two comments are wrong.

I suppose he might see it as a work of art, and perhaps even something the customer liked

Not recommended, but if both parties are happy, who am I to judge?

The pattern will not endure on the seat and back cushions of course

I don't get it with shark teeth. It seems like they will remain for a while around areas that aren't sat in or trafficked in carpet and upholstery, and in the areas that are used they quickly disappear creating a weird look. I did shark teeth in carpet once when I started, took a picture, and have never done it since. Customers like what we do, and I'm not pissing around trying to maintain some kind of consistent geometry while I am cleaning, or worse going over areas multiple times for the sake of vanity. Clean it, groom it, moving on...

My competitor got his hands on this couch before I was able to

This is at my elderly repeat customer’s house and they forgot my name. I entered their address wrong on file. Stupid google address maps. Their address is a HWY, and I had GA- which pulls up correctly.
So they never received my reminder postcards from what they told me today. And this dude bleached it good.

How much does it cost per postcard when you send out a ton of them? And what do you think causes serious bleaching in certain areas of the upholstery like that, yet leaves large regions unaffected?
