She kept a straight face and said to me they were raising their rates by 20% for next years book.

I said with just as straight a face, then I guess I will forget about going to a bigger ad and will cancel my ad as I really don't need it.

She said she has never been asked by anyone before to lower her price. , and would have to ask her manager to see what could be done about it.

Get friggen real. Screwed and getting my intelligence insulted in 10 seconds.


Then she proceed to show me a bunch of over priced online YP crap...

You must of been her first client.

She must of been very naive and or new to the biz.

I have a theory.

Last year I asked for a deal and they obliged. The current account rep probably looked at the notes on my account and decided to use the preemptive strategy of saying they were raising their rates so I wouldn't ask for a further discount from last year.

Every meeting I've had with them they have started the conversation with there as been a price increase this year BUT if you choose a bigger package you can continue getting a substantial discount.

Essentially they tell me if I stick with what I have the price will increase by 15%-20% or I can get a bigger package and the price will only increase by 5%-10% and it's the same with all three yellowpage books in this town. I dropped one a couple of years ago and I'll probably drop the other two this year.

I have 1 book in our valley that works. I do a full page ad every year. It always brings me in 5-6x my cost in revenue. It also helps the owner is local and trades half the cost for carpet cleaning for their entire family. The rest of the phonebooks can eat shit and die. :shock:
