People click more on the top 3 map results and organic results than they do the AdWords results. Of course you only pay per click with AdWords, but much less traffic. Search for search engine watch google local pack. There is an article that estimates 2 - 3 times as much traffic goes to the map results than the organic and six times more traffic than paid ads.
Thats the genius to it. You are only charged for a click.

Impressions are free. You get seen twice, one more than any of dem udder mofo's. :winky:

Absolutely; only charged for a click is great. But in some markets the clicks can be expensive. And, the correct keywords and negative keywords are important to avoid clicks from people who aren't potential buyers. Hence the earlier advice to consider hiring a professional.

You will get more traffic by showing up in the google map results than you can buy on AdWords, regardless of your AdWords budget. You won't be charged for each click, and every time some searches they will see your company. Not saying that AdWords is a bad pursuit or waste of money by any stretch as it can have a positive return for many companies if it's managed appropriately. And, of course, ranking on Google takes time and effort with few companies willing to guarantee results...

We use Google AdWords and it works great for us, but our situation is quite different because we are not bidding on the same keywords that everyone else does. For example, if your keywords are "stain" or "cleaning" you're going to pay a fortune for them because there are so many other people bidding on those same words. The keywords that we use such as "bleach spots" or "fading" or "color damage" (etc.) are dirt cheap because no one else is bidding on them. You can quickly spend a fortune on clicks for keywords that are related to the cleaning business because there are so many other people bidding on those words.

We have an entire list of keywords, both negative and positive, that we make available for our trainees. This makes it very quick and easy for them to build a Google AdWords campaign, rather than having to start from scratch or try to reinvent the wheel. We have it posted in The Dye Lot.

If any of you would like help creating a Google campaign, send me a message and I'll be happy to help you. I can put you in touch with an expert at Google that will help you free of charge.
