    I do twice a year.

I use Service Monster to create and send them. I set the filters to not include anyone currently on the schedule or who have used us in the last two months if I include a discount offer..

With those perpetrators set, I just sent this to 1833 past clients..

    Happy Holidays from Connoisseur Cleaning!

    and what a year it’s been…

Crazy weather, politics, economics, traffic, fires and work load here at Connoisseur.. As we end the craziness and hope for a more mellow 2018, we’d like to spread some cheer and offer our loyal clientele a 15% off discount on any order including two of our services. (Carpet, Upholstery, Stone Restoration, Tile and Grout, Fabric Protection, Grout Repair or Are Rug Cleaning) All discounted work must be completed before January 7th, minimum charge applies, call for details blah blah blah...

In other (good) news, we’ve added a forth employee to our staff, Stephen Lakey, a life time Santa Cruzer who has also worked at Artisan Rug Cleaning, has a great eye for detail and a very mechanical mind set which helps keep our equipment working top notch. You’ll likely notice we can get to your cleaning projects a bit sooner with the extra help.

Our ultra deluxe fabric protection product continues to amaze home owners with it’s very noticeable performance on wool rugs and “nice” furniture. We’ve had many requests to come back and treat whole homes once the owner experiences the performance first hand. If you would like to test it out and see for yourself, please request at the time of booking a cleaning to have a dinning room chair, pair of shoes (leather too!) fabric swatch or other small item treated (no charge) when we come out or arrange to drop it by our shop on Seabright.

On a more uplifting note, I have been organizing the cleanings of various Ronald McDonald Homes around the country this year. I bring in a group of passionate, dedicated cleaning business owners from around the country with me and we take care of all their carpet, tile, upholstery, counter-tops and rugs. The feedback from the volunteer staff and families staying at the homes has been just tremendous, so much so I have plans to do at least 7 more next year. If you or anyone you know has ever had to use an “RMH”, you’ll know just how special this organization is. I’m pleased that I will be able to bring out my son Davis and our employee Ely to the next cleaning a the Las Vegas home in January. It’s a real eye opener to just how just how blessed we’ve been in respect to illness in our families and I know the feeling of giving back to those less fortunate, will have a long lasting impact on their lives.

I’ll be coming to town this week for our company Christmas party, if you would like to get together to discuss the weather, politics, cleaning projects, life on the High Sierra or just have a coffee or beer, give me a ring @ 831 588 9063

Best wishes for a great 2018!

We use Mail Chimp to send quarterly messages or announcements whenever there's something worthwhile.

Realizing that most won't read an e-mail (Think Marty) longer than a few sentences, we try to make each topic a quick hitter with a link to "more..." on our website. Those that are truly interested get the rest of the story and it helps with site attendance. Mail Chimp tracking helps us increase those clicks.

PS: Unless you're a follower of the 'Joe Polish school of misused words make you seem real' school, have someone proofread. Most programs below the level of Word won't catch correctly spelled words used in the wrong place, and auto-correct is famous for substituting the wrong word. EX: dinning/dining and perpetrators/parameters. I've done this plenty, and it can be pretty funny in a text message, but not so much in a marketing piece.

No emails, but I do send them cards about 7 times a year. So that is about 4,900 postcards a year if I keep up on the sequences.

No. How do those emails Do? Somewhere I read less than 1%. Do they do better than that or is this just a keep in touch piece?

Depends on what you're trying to do. Just info will get about an 8% open rate (not just reading in the preview pane) and 3% click through to get more info. It depends on how topical the information is. Special offers get around an 18% open rate, but we won't be able to track
ROI until we get new software. The cost is .006 each, so maybe the ROI doesn't matter.

I think if we did them more often the open rate would drop, and if the information isn't any fun the next open rate will drop.

It would insult me to think you thought my life was so boring that I’d sit and read all that BS.

For many clients they do quarterly emails that have replaced the paper quarterly mail programs. Create content once or twice a month and then do a review of that content with links to your website from the email. As Bryan suggests keep it short and sweet. You don't necessarily have to do content from your website. You could do a schedule such as: (with the first month mentioned being when you sent them)

    Oct-Dec:

Topic 1) Places to buy a real tree, other fun winter/holiday activities, holiday recipes
Topic 2) Winter check list - Insulate outside spigots, keep cupboards open during super cold days, etc.
Topic 3) DIY spotting tips - lots of family coming over something is bound to spill

    Jan-Mar:

Topic 1) Some type of call to action to get the phone to ring since it typically slows down
Topic 2) Fun things to do during the colder months
Topic 3) Pet spotting tips, being colder a lot of dogs don't like to go out in the cold and are more prone to accidents

    April-June:

Topic 1) Spring cleaning check list - add your services in there
Topic 2) Carpet, Tile, Upholstery Maintenance Tips - think dealing with salt and things of that nature if you live where it snows
Topic 3) Prepare for rain, check foundation and that water is running away, get gutters cleaned out so they drain, etc.

    Jul-Sept:

Topic 1) Fun things to do this summer
Topic 2) Summer home maintenance tips
Topic 3) Back to school something or other

I send reminder cards every month but haven't done entire lists in a few years.
Last year I sent out $50 gift cards to my best customers.
My clients here hate getting emails.

We’re guilty of projecting our Saiger phobia onto our customers.

    So it’s Saigers fault!
