I got certified in the early 90's. I enjoyed the classes and meeting other local carpet cleaners who had the same concerns as I did. I still have friendships from those days. We had some good instructors like Tom Hill, who was very detailed oriented and Ron Toney, who taught how to clean with "style" and several others who were equally as good. The main thing that bothered me was the IICRC certified firm category. In theory, everyone from your firm was supposed to be working towards certication. In the real world, large companies would send their crew foreman to get certified and then be able to claim firm certification and advertise it on all their trucks. There was never any enforcement. In western Canada, the IICRC never had much of a presence when it came to advocating for certified cleaners. I have never had a customer ask if I was certified.
