only experience I have is with the Woods coupler like shown in the vid
Very reliable from my experience
Matter of fact, I only shredded one in my life ...that would be north of 11,000 hours total run time between the two Powermatics I've owned

We had two new ones that ate couplers until we aligned them.

Cut the angle to fit Nate.

BOTH sides of the angle must sit flat on BOTH cups, all the way around.

I am going to guess Hydramaster's Hydracat with the Dodge PX-70 coupler would be at the top.
Failure of all these EPDM coupler sleeves has just as much to to with heat as misalignment.
EPDM sleeves are only rated to 275 degrees.
Have you ever checked the temperature of the flanges that hold the sleeve with a laser thermometer?
I have seen some setups reach 350-375 degrees on the flange closest to the engine especially if the exhaust pipes are routed anywhere near the coupler.

No I still don't understand why they make "S" bend wands. Is there an engineer out there that can explain it?

I had the Woods style on my first TM, I changed it once after thousands of hours.
The coupler that my Boxxer421 was 6 or 8 rubber plugs about 1 inch across. Not nearly as durable, but really easy to change. They would need to be replaced every year or two.

My machine was eat'n them lovejoys like Mickey eat'n Debbie diamond. Then I discovered this special tool. It's extremely hard to find these days. Rare. Works like a charm though.

aligned properly coupled machines have done very good. They will wear out like belts, and get replaced thats when they get misaligned and fail.

I will use the following notation:
adr: average daily rate of wood chucked.
als: average lifespan of a woodchuck in years.
eca: earliest chucking age of wood chuck in years.
twc: total wood chucked by woodchuck.

Then the formula is very simple.

twc = 365.25 * (als - eca) * adr

As an example assume the following:
adr = 50 logs per day.
als = 5 years.
eca = 1 year.

twc = 365.25 * (5 - 1) * 50 = 73050 logs

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

Since they dont chuck wood,
None of them do.

There are 3 axis to line up simultaneously. A level will do one.

Yeah ok.

Done mine top bottom and sides this way…belts been fine running no issues.
That's why I luv my machine…no added unnecessary mechanics just straight simplicity.

I replace the coupler and belts all at the same time since I slide the engine forward to get them changed. They are pretty durable.

I have never seen a split coupler like in this video. That would make changing it so much easier. Is there any disadvantage to the split coupler as opposed to a solid no split coupler?
