I local online mothers group threatened to boycott my business if I promoted Scotch gard type products as they felt it was unsafe and not healthy.. so I need a very safe product.. but also need it to work and be legal here in California.. I might just pass on it.?

There are others in this "arena" that have a much better track record and product.

Always be wary of those that seek you out to fill their needs vs those you need to be vetted for to represent them....just my opinion.

Message me if you want info on a real game changing "permanent" fiber protection product.

So Papa John you got an email for a green protector then a mothers group?? sounds fishy!

No That's not what happened at all... the mother's group thing happened maybe 10 years ago when I 1st tried to market protector.. so I've avoided the product since then.. But I'm hearing that the stuff is safer now.

Is it more "permanent" than the factory protector?

Just when I've started to sell the Maxim too....

I've seen real results with Maxim Advanced pretty recently and it's done wonders for my confidence. I've got 5 gallons more being delivered today with a new injection sprayer that will be dedicated to it.

I've been meaning to get some pictures and a pretty cool testimony posted up here but haven't had the time to do it justice. It's been a pretty big deal for me.

I also picked up 5 gallons of Cobbs stuff so I can test for myself. I understand the Ultra Seal can be used on tile too??

You are talking about Ultra- Guard, right?

http://www.ultra-guard.com/

Or are we talking Ultra Seal....

http://www.cobbcarpet.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1229

I was responding in reference to Ultra Guard. Seems like there could be some confusion in thinking they are one and the same.

Ultra-Guard, MicroSeal and the like are ones that typically come with a "territory" . You need to be a distributor to apply the product and you have to pay fees/buy in to the company to do so. In exchange, they don't allow anyone else in your territory offer it. They are exclusive to the territory owner.

I'd be wary of Ultra Guard contacting you. Why is the territory open? Has it been for a while? Was the last guy not successful and gave it up, or did they take it back from him for not meeting sales quota? Not to say you couldn't be successful with it, but if it was doing well in your area, someone wouldn't give it up. But like anything else, if the person who had the area wasn't working it, then it won't be successful.

This is the one that is in my neck of the woods...similar concepthttp://fiberseal.com/.

Here is their info on open territories....http://fiberseal.com/ownership/

Permanent...

"permanent"ish....?

I'm not a fan of using the word permanent for these types of protectors, however it is how "they" refer to them, which is why I used that word. The certainly offer more permanency than scotchgard or maxium which will come off with wear and cleaning. And depending on the "life" of the carpet or upholstery piece, it will withstand many cleanings, so could be "permanent" to that piece/fiber if it's cleaned once a year or less frequently.

I know there is a market for these kinds of protectors. Lots of $ to be made with them and then servicing the clients after it's been applied.

I'd be wary of Ultra Guard

I hit post before I finished that thought. I have since edited.

I wasn't meaning to say to be wary of Ultra Guard it's self or that it's in any way an inferior product. The rest of the thought was to be wary about them soliciting YOU to fill their territory vs. you approaching them. That's all. And I'd say the same thing about any company that went about it that way.

Haven't fully launched yet, Mike, so keeping that under my hat for now....but we talked, and you know. I'll discuss more offline if you have more questions.

Thank Meg and everyone for your thoughts.. I think I'm going to pass on the protector sales.. I don't want to alienate my target market... When they said they would boycott my service years ago If I promoted or applied such a product to carpets-- My response was--" You know that Starbucks Paper coffee cup in your hand has the stuff sprayed inside it".. That still didn't sway them- so I never offered the stuff.

Scotchgard voluntarily pulled its product a few years back to re formulate. I don't remember the exact details but there might have been some speculations that some of the ingredients might be carcenigentic. To the daily user not the end consumer. Probably the reason for the uproar. You cant sneeze today with something causing cancer.

I used to work for Ultra-Guard...Richard Fleming.
He owns a fabric protection business that he started. He hires sub-contractors to work for him and do the treatment and cleaning. Most of his jobs are with interior designers. This is a great company to work for. He has lots of work and pays well. I left them about 15 years ago, but if he calls you for work, you would not go wrong working for him.
