Nothing wrong buying used

I just picked up another 3 crb machines from Craigslist, ebay, and another source in Philadelphia, spending less than 3,000$. Nothing wrong with buying used in my opinion. I'm up to 11 machines, 7 constantly being used and the rest for back up as carpet cleaning is the largest part of our biz.

Just seen a BrushPro (even though not my choice or crb yet) go on eBay for $1,400. Carpet cleaners go out of business everyday trying to unload these. If you don't have the bank roll that some of these guys do (or pretend to) going used is the way to do it. Running these machines almost 6 to 8 hours a day and have had them break down maybe once a year due to new gears needed. This cost is usually around $400 to replace gears/belts.

Just a helpful tip for someone starting out or working on ways to grow in the low moisture part of our business!

If I can get good quality used I will buy used first. If there isn't any available I buy new.

I'm picky about used though, I don't want other peoples junk. :very_drunk:

Yep. Should point that out. You don't want machines with highly noticeable scratches, etc. Look through the pictures, or have the seller send you a video of the machine. I usually ask they run it on carpet during the video so I can hear how the motor and gears sound. When we first started out 3 years ago, we bought our first CRBs for around $1,200 a piece. That was 2 of them. Normally, new, these would be around $2600. If you are starting with a lower budget, look for the deals!

Just buying a machine once from a guy online, found out her rebuilds CRBs. I now order them directly from him when he gets them in for less than $800.

BTW: I'm talking about CRBs, 175s, etc. I don't own any TM's so I don't know the risk or what purchasing those new.

Buying a used tm is just like buying a used car. Get a mechanic to check it out before you buy because it is usually an "as is" sale and the moment the other guy has your money in his hot, greedy palm, the problem is now yours. Having said that, I have never owned a new truckmount, I keep recycling old ones.

I had a demo of the Everest last fall with Tim Baker. Awesome machine but a little overkill for the single wand unit. You will get the same results with the Apex. Still water cooled and will have the same life expectancy. Save you few bucks.

I ran it in Aptos a couple years ago and in Atlanta last month. Go big or go home! :winky:

Thats what I paid for the last two Spartans. My Prochem distributor quoted me that without even getting serious. If he can't do better on price, maybe I can get something else thrown in. :winky:
