The Forever Clean is a new version of triexta from Mohawk introduced in the spring of 2016. I visited the dominant local carpet supplier to consumers last week and every thing they now sell is the Forever Clean. It is different as they finally applied a durable fluorochemical coating to this carpet, which was resistant to oil (essential for triexta, polyester, olefin) and repelled water even if that is not necessary for Triexta. I cleaned 5 times with a Flex Powder and rinsed with Flex Fire. I tested repellency after each cleaning and performance did not diminish until the fifth cleaning. However, I did not test fluorochemical for durability to foot traffic and to the abrasion of a beater bar vacuum. The introduction of Forever Clean is a tacit admission that they needed a fluorochemical to limit the bonding of oils to the triexta fiber.

Is it just a topical application?

Should it be expected to last as long as say, a topical application of Cobbs sealer?

How long would you say a good application Cobbs would last?

How important is the durability of the fluorochemical when the durability of the fibers themselves is so poor, and so prone to wear and distortion?

Balls on those fookers to market it as "Forever Clean".

Not surprised either.

Mill applications are always more durable than field applications, no matter the fluorochemical. The cleaning test with high pH for Forever Clean was impressive as nylon would have shown degradation to the protector after 3 cleanings with high pH. It also shows that fluorochemical will bond to polyester, olefin and triexta fibers. It will do nothing to improve wear, but it will limit bonding of oils and subsequent re-soiling to some degree. Putting a silk scarf on a pig is one way of putting it. It is an insult to a pig as it was one of my favorite farm animals as I was growing up. Also ham, bacon and sausage are some of my favorite meats.

You use the silk scarf as a napkin afterward.
