We use 18"x18" open floor tiles in our shop. Easy for getting all the dirt out because it just falls through the cracks. Also made a 16'x16' pit using wood boards and a harder tarp like plastic that us Minnesotans use for outdoor hockey rinks in the back yard. Can upload photos if you'd like.

I told the wife and daughter no rugs in the shop until Nov. We're too busy....

They don't listen!

Just had six more go out today... Get them out of my shop!

The wife and daughter under quote them all the time as well (customers lie about rug sizes and what made of)

I got home late yesterday, hit garage door opener to park the van... 2 piss soaked cheap ass rugs in my way.

This morning as I was helping prepare the other rugs for delivery sometime today, I looked them over.... They are gonners. Told the daughter they will not survive... Tell them wasted cause...

They are going to pick them up and do them themselves...

They should smell super sweet... If they survive the hosing down. At least all the backing from them will be in their driveway to scrape up.

I can send pics later of our set up, but we have drains installed on an expoxy floor... So no rug pit. Flush and drain... Flush and drain...

We have 3 hanging poles that tuck between garage door tracks and some more in the front of the shop

All depends on how serious you want to get about rug cleaning. You can do a reasonable job in most rugs with a vacuum, 175 with shampoo tank and brush, portable/truck mount. Vacuum and dust both sides of rug. Treat with appropriate prespray or shampoo with 175, or sometimes both. Rinse with extractor, groom and hang to dry. It will be more difficult to treat urine than using a wash out but if you use the right products and take your time, you can do a good job. Out of my 1100 sqft shop, about 400 sqft is dedicated to rug cleaning. I have 5 overhead 12 ft poles.

I see that as more work than money. Use your rug company that you network with and add a couple $bucks per sq ft for delivery to your customer.

Huh? I make 500-1500$ a week off of rugs.
My total investment was about 1200$ 2 years ago...

I'm going to have the best fun harassing you with it, when it brings in work

I hope so too, Matt
cuz Lord knows you're rarely ever right..

:razz::razz:

seriously tho...

for the money involved, no reason not to give it a shot to see what shakes

here's my personal observations of bill boards.
Uncluttered locations I notice them .
and digi ones that change, I notice even more

and there are two locally I notice all-de-time
One's on a main drag between two towns and the other on the interstate.
There are plenty others on the interstate and main drags too...but those two get my attention every time

so I guess the ole adage of "three principles to success" may apply?
1.) Location
2.) Location
3.) Location

Our goal would be to cover the grossly increased rent and to sell far more FPA
Who is going to clean the rugs? Are they capable without ruining expensive rugs? Will customers drop them off or will they be picked up from their homes? Can you set up some of your local dry cleaning stores to act as agents for you? Most of my rugs come from my dry cleaning agents. They have a small sign in the window and a price list. I make about the same as Jeff but could expand it if I had the time or employees. Pays the shop rent and a little more. It does take time away from more important jobs some times.

I have been getting more calls for offsite rug cleaning. It does pay to have something in place rather than ell people that you can’t service them.
Some rugs have earned a tour of the landfill. You have to be honest with those types.
Anyway, I moved to a new office about 3 months ago and I haven’t set up a rug cleaning space yet. As soon as it’s set up I will take some pictures. I’ll have a cleaning room and a drying room. Only room for about 5 8x10 rugs at a time max.
