So I was thinking a while back... the church industry is huge. Has anyone ever heard of getting a big setup (Steam Action type) and a couple of Cimexes in a big straight truck and marketing to churches across the country. Put them on a route, down south in the winter and head north during the summer. I'm not saying I would do it, but it sounded like a neat way to see the country and make some bank.

Keep in mind the churches in the big city are super cheap when it comes to hiring this service, and the churches in the little cities only like the locals. I think it would be a tough market to devote your whole business model towards

Doesn’t sound like fun at all. You imagine having to handle marketing in all those areas and insuring your schedule is full enough to warrant the trip then to have cancellations making said trip unprofitable and exceedingly inconvenient

be right up there with chasing chain motels and restaurants if you asked a drywall'r...

target your locals

I love churches (candle wax is nothing for TM that makes real heat)
AND there's res custys to be had there if/when you can impress and make the church sparkle

LOVE churches
carpet between the pews is a PITA (to do right)
But the pews themselves are a big money maker with the right tools and a couple operators that know what they're doing.

the rest of the carpet is easypeasy and the only real work is generally areas like the nursery and party 'n eats room/banquet hall

target your locals.
take some Sunday morning drives and check how many cars in the lot (indicator whether financially healthy)

be a truck driver if you want to see the country and get paid

The great American church cleaning tour may work better financially if you also add this to your arsenal (to supplement your income):

Actually, I specialize in church janitorial. The reason my customers use us is we provide so many services that they need. Carpet cleaning is just one of many services. I rarely, and I mean rarely, have any competition in my services. In fact, it’s rare they ask how much. I’m usually on a schedule or can determine what needs to be done.

I assume that those churches are in your area and you have built up a reputation with other churches and companies that you did good work.

A traveling cleaning company that works doing national chains also has the confidence of the national headquarters.

A traveling cleaning company just focusing on churches would also need some sort of reason to trust them. It sounds like those travelling band of grifters who travel the country selling black paint as driveway sealer.

From the other side, how would you get payment? Cash up front? It's been my experience that just because it's a church or house of worship doesn't mean that they are honest.

What happens if there are issues with the carpet when it dries? Do you go back and address them?

How about if your equipment is damaged or stolen, stuck in the middle of no where? Or get jumped because you are in the wrong part of town at the wrong time of day.

If it was me, I would focus more on growing my core area and save your sightseeing for vacation.

Amen! That absolutely sums it up. We’re trusted so much with them that we’re considered part of their staff. We receive all staff emails at all locations. We get all schedules at the the beginning of each week,
so we’re aware off happenings. We provide event services, pre and post, so we’re aware of what needs to take place for us. I’m not saying someone couldn’t come in, but it would be difficult.
