Turns out, much to my surprise that the Scruz team set the SS12 to 8 flow...


Makes no sense especially considering the brass jets are pretty warn so I'm probably working with 10ish...

I get the same phenomenon.

I get better heat with my JoeDang (8 flow, 450 psi) than my SS12 (6 flow, 450 psi).

What are you talking about? You usually don't have great heat? You must be making up for that usually with all the great compliments you get.

Same thing with my 870. I run a 12 flow wand. The more I push through it, the hotter she gets.

I believe it has to do with how fast and how much water you can get to the tip of your wand from the heat exchanger. The water doesn't get hotter just sitting in the solution line.

On my little cds, after I replaced and insulated the heat exchangers with spray foam, I am getting 210-215 degrees at the truck. (if the temperature gauge is correct) Much better than the older, clogged up heat exchanger. Makes a noticeable difference. I use a 6 flow.

that's a yuge factor.
trigger duty cycle lives matter...
200 degree water cools faster than 150 degree water too.
Then add dissipation thru sol line stretched 100ft

You are obviously right, I just experimented with my SS 12 and 25° weather. I got better heat at 600 psi than 450 psi at 6 flow.

The JoeDang at 8 flow, 450 psi is even hotter.

Seems like flow is more important than psi when it comes to you heat exchanger efficiency.

Just ran my SS12 at 4 flow, 450 psi and got less heat than 6 flow, 450 psi.
4 flow 450psi ~1.25gpm
6 flow 450psi ~1.6gpm
6 flow 600psi ~2gpm
8 flow at450 ~2.1gpm


Did you record the temps?




*just eyeing the chart ...not doing the math

I laid on the wand for 30 seconds on each test and noted the temperature.... in my mind, which is clearly a problem.

I went back through the settings/wands a second time because I know my little HX is goofy at low temperature.

My blower was capped off for this

6 flow, 450 psi... max 170 degrees at about 20 seconds. About the same on the second go around.

8 flow, 450 psi... max 182 degrees at about 15 seconds. Again, about the same the second time.

4 flow, 450 psi... max 165 at about 22 seconds. Same the second time.

4 flow at 600 psi got to 185 around 15 seconds.

You want to stand beside your truck and trigger the wand while looking at the temp gauge. See how long it maintains the temperature before it begins to drop.

I’m not really worried about it, it’s just interesting that flow seems more important than psi when it comes to keeping up the hot water when it’s cold.

I always thought of it this way:

Prevent the water from bypasssing in the waste tank by moving more water, so It'll bypass through your wand, with higher pressure or flow.

The Water SS370 has been getting so hot that the TM would shut down.
An unreliable transfer pump seemed to be the problem.
