Im gonna install a remote start stop on my TM. Wondering if there are new truck mounts with this capability with an app on phone?

I can’t see the benefit of having this option to remotely turn it off and on

-for turning it off: you’ll likely be about 400ft away with the hoses hooked up under load. Not a good time to turn it off.

-for turning on: why? I can’t find any good reason to turn it on from a far distance away. It’s good to visually inspect the machine close up before turning it on. You can’t do that from a distance.

Can someone give me good reasons for this?

It's probably for 100 ft hose runs and furniture moving idle down save ⛽

Thoms Conway aka Devpro Tommy used a spring from his vac relief to his throttle (basically) making his Volkswagen powered TM a Poorman's E-Idle.. Idle down when no load, when load on the wand machine increases..

On/off is easier with PTO/direct drive style TM's imho..

Heres my reason, stairs. I am in an area where flood insurance made about 90% of houses up on pilings. Shifting from 3rd level to 2nd level to first level it would be used. I would also like to finish a room off and set up for the next room without machine on. And the visual inspection, I wouldn't mind that on the phone either with a cam. How many times I had asked a tech to go check the temp or pressure....or why did the machine shut down. Just saying for the price tag on these TM and the bragging of the superior features, this should be in play.

I want a new truck $100 over invoice, and a smart TM. and I don't want to wait.🤓

yeah, im installing on the PTO the on off remote. That is simple. Slide in would be more difficult, idle down option would work.

We (or most of us) don't get to work from our house with pajamas bottoms and a dress shirt. Technology advanced so fast, the rug sucker should benefit from this tech too. My garage door app is an example of benefits with an app, more than I need for sure but at least it is something use daily. IMO the industry should be all over this, probably are.

I agree for the price the machines are, they could use a little more high techness.

My main concern on remotely turning it off and on or reducing the throttle down to idle is: Is it hard on the machine to start it up or bring it down to idle with the hoses attached under load? I think it puts a strain on it, which makes me concerned about it. You're right on it being more possible to do this on a PTO

not sure its much different than the initial startup. If I remember correctly the manuals for most truck mounts is to start with the tool connected. If doing this is different when hot, you may be on to a con for this option. You got more on hand mechanic wisdom under your belt than me. That winter project on the Thermalwave was fn awesome.

when the water solution line bursts and its spraying 230 degree water everywhere.
I change the solution lines every year to prevent this but a remote control would be very useful when this happens.

Also WHEN this becomes a standard, phone in one hand, trigger in the other and start up with no load on hot solution hose.

I’d pass.

These manufacturers can’t even get an engine, pump and blower to run without issues.

Boggles my mind how a truck can run 100k miles with only oil changes, but a simple TM needs consistent tinkering.

Another very good point. They love to announce their title of ENGINEERS designing these machines

For what they charge, they could probably hire actual engineers from automobile manufacturers. I’m sure there’s more engineering involved in my completely reliable van than a truckmount. My van didn’t cost much more.

You’re right, the industry is too big to have mom and pop operations overcharging for everything, but not big enough to have a major corporation come in and shake things up
I think about slide in truckmounts only sapphire or Hydramaster are carried in stores in California usually just sapphire

But to be honest I am waiting for the Tesla version truckmount all electric that can easily be plugged in at homes or at night and have enough energy to clean big jobs

Constant tinkering is constant service $ for a lot of operators that don't swing wrenches. All part of this biz.

That used to be the business model for American car companies. Then the Japanese companies started outselling them.

The American companies had to start making good cars.

um, just put the vac hose by the burst. if you throttle down, you still have pressure.

just my opinion but the most reliable TM I had was the Prochem 800A. just an engine, blower and water pump. Never had problems with it. Sometimes KISS works.

We went one step further and eliminated the water box routed the water to flow directly from the water tank to the pump recirculating back to the water tank because there was no preheater.

Only thing was the water only got to 185 degrees but trouble free for sure

Some have. That's what got us plastic hose fittings and aluminum radiators that break after a couple of years.

Problems with those showed up long after the warranty was up, but cleaners were still upset. The automotive industry is all about the cheapest possible solution weighted against getting past the warranty period, but manufacturers in our tiny industry can't afford to do business that way.
