I agree. I very quickly went to a stiff shampoo brush on a 175 back in the summer of 1975 just a few months after trying to get the results I wanted from my new Vac 11 steam cleaner. That combo was unbeatable even after I got my Pro1200 TM in 1987. I finally put the 175/brush away when I got my 360i three years ago. Nothing beats that little rotary machine. The 175 with brush served me well for 35 years but is now retired collecting dust.

RX-20 dedication has made the 175 unnecessary for us.

Hey, only so much room in the van--I'd love to have every tool imaginable but it's not practical.

Thanks for the explanation Shane, I understand how the adjustable center riser works but I apologize for not asking my questions clearly.
First, is the brush Mikey showed adjustable or not? It doesn't look like it is.
Secondly, which carpet brush is better, adjustable or non-adjustable?
Thirdly, Does it really matter if its adjustable or not? And if so, why?

The Centaur machines are bullet proof. I have been to their factory and their operation is impeccable. First class all the way.

Felt like it took forever but in reality it wasn't that bad. I left a section of a hall un-scrubbed and ran just the 360. Ya, can't deny the difference.

My frustration is space in the van. I need a 12" box with roll up doors bad. Dam home owners association will hang me if I park one in my drive.

I really like saiger's idea of using a 10 inch crb. Saves space, fits on stairs/bullnoses, recommended by shaw as a tool that causes no harm, and perhaps something new to wow the customer with.

The Cyl. Brush Machine has a couple of advantages:

1. It brushes the pile in two different directions with the counter-rotating brushes.

2. The 20" CBM is 50 lbs. vs ~100 lbs for a good 17" floor machine.

3. The CBM will allow effective "Encapsulation" cleaning for price sensitive commercial maintenance plans.

4. It can also "Pile Brush" the carpet as a hd Vacuum.

Larry, what's the difference between a CRB and a CBM? I know that CRB stands for counter rotating brush, how is different the CBM?

Will any of them will double as a vacuum (not just for pet hair), for those of us who can't have an extended van, therefore are space challenged?

i used extreme clean today for the first time in a nasty one bedroom. used the certified pile lifter to agitate and help restore the pile. i think that stuff gave me a headache.

ive been thinking about getting that brush for my 175. i dont always carry it but usually have my pile lifter but id still like to have a brush for the 175 for bigger jobs. i use several different pads including the green stripe which seem to work best for scrubbing.

I have both and the CBM is not nearly as good as the 175 for prescribing. It's good at removing hair and loose carpet fiber, but not as a scrubber.

The 175 is still king.

Since we got the Whitteaker it comes out a lot. The 175 with the blue brush riser removed rarely comes out on residential but always on commercial. The 175 pushes it down and around but the Whitteaker pulls it up.

I have no idea how you're set up, of course, but I would be surprised if you have to use it often. The place has to be pretty bad before I need it, but man, there's nothing like a good ole 100 lb rotary to dig up soil.

I have a realty company that manages 250 rentals (their count) that has started using me exclusively (so they say). I have to believe its in part because I am willing to take the time and go to the effort to prescrub (with a brush) on their rat nasties. It is really amazing the results you can get with a 175 and HWE over HWE alone.

It's breaks the bond the soil has with the fiber and your extraction removes it.

Using your reasoning, HWE Pushes it down, since the jets are pointed downward.

I think you have not used the CBM's with larger motors and heavier frames.

With enough HP and counter-rotating stiff brushes,
it will outclean that flimsy rotary brush spinning on that plastic disc.

Paul Brown has cleaned lots of carpet with both types of brush machines.

Ask his opinion of comparative cleaning ability.

A fiber pad under a 175 is the king of grease busters, amything else is an old man copout
