Circular saw cut it right off. This is the downside of being a lone operator. I have to call all my jobs that are booked up this week and probably next week's and cancel. Fully booked. This so sucks. Oh well, time to relax and heal.

When my sister cut the top of her finger off years ago.

I found it(looked like a piece of corn) and put it in ice.

The police ran it to the hospital and they sewed it back on.

You can't even tell it was ever cut off now.

Hope you heal real quick. No more power tools for you, young man.

When I lived on a ranch many years ago, one of the hands stopped by my house early in the morning with his hand wrapped in a towel and calmly asked, "Can see if you can find my thumb outside the lower horse barn and bring it to the hospital?" He was tying up a stallion who reared back and caught his thumb in the knot. Took it clean off. Found the thumb with a long tendon being sniffed at by his confused dog. Packed it on ice and rushed it to the hospital, but it couldn't be saved.

I think your customers will be sympathetic and patient. That has been my experience.

Art I hope they gave you a bunch of Tylenol 3's. Get well soon. In the meantime, I hope you can type with one hand.

I can and am typing (slowly) with one hand after doing something stupid a week ago with a grinder with a metal cutting disk on it. I fond that the disk not only cuts metal- it also slices through skin, flesh, tendons and arteries REAL FAST. My first time in the hospital after 58 years.

Real sorry about the finger, Art. That is really a bummer. Get 'em to give you morphine and Percoset. I was floating and then I wanted to drive myself home! :)

wow...that's awful, Art

which finger... and did you lose just the tip or lose a knuckle or two too?

I've come close to losing my thumb on the table saw a few years ago .
Doing what I KNOW better than to do....reach over the saw to grab the piece .
Made a clean as a whistle 3/16" wide cut right to the bone

screw the Tylenol 3...that's kid stuff
eat some "high octane" sheet and chill the stump .
You'll be sore for awhile

Steve I also had a little mishap with a Makita grinder on my forearm. I was grinding off some bolts when the grinder bucked on me and flipped around and attacked me. Lots of blood lots of stitches but thankfully I missed major arteries and tendons.

Now when I pick up a grinder I treat it more carefully.

I have a couple of screws and a pin in my right hand too but that's another story...

So how much did that little rodeo with the grinder cost you?

4-6 weeks in a cast, either a 5K or 8K deductible (not sure yet) and a pretty ticked off wife. (She is over it now.) Oh, and a garage shop that looks like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Steve

PS On the other hand I am supposed to get the use of my thumb back with some therapy. Art has lost his finger. Kinda puts some perspective on it.

Thanks Bro. I'll try not to feel sorry for myself, things will eventually be fine. I'll just have a shorter middle finger. And a new respect for the power saw. This is why I don't keep a gun at my house. You have to be careful 100% of the time with these things.

Damn Art, sorry bro. Was it the same hand you cut up years back? Was it too trashed to reattach?

I can't imagine you'll be wanding full time in 2 weeks, you'll be miserable trying to elevate it and clean. Now sounds like a good time to hire someone and just supervise. At least get a temp for a few weeks.

Yes. Some spectacularly bad luck there. I know two weeks seems quite ambitious, but if I'm not leaking blood, hopefully the pain will be manageable. In any event, it's going to be an unpleasant month.

Good luck to you Art.

Maybe you can use a helper. They actually can pay for themselves and make your life easier, job totals higher anyway.

Wonder if you'll have to get a new wand grip/trigger or modify an existing one?

Hang in their buddy, I'm glad my body has been hanging in there all these years!!

By the way...Luck may not have anything to do with it.

Sorry for the hard time...just trying to bring up your spirits.

Thats some funny shit. LOL!!

BTW Art, I busted my leg and had a plate put in a few years back and was back at it full steam after 5 weeks, so stop being such a pussy. I actually took off the tip of my middle finger with a circular saw and didn't miss a day off work, so there.

Was watching drag racing a few weeks ago on ESPN, and they were doing close-ups of the crew chiefs doing their last minute tweaks on the Funny Cars, and the one crewman stuck his hand into the blower drive belt, and you could see his finger fly off. 8000 HP has no sympathy.......
