and who in the hell thought putting a baptism pool heater in a van would be a good idea?

This has been used in our shop everyday since the 70s. We replaced the coil once and a few thermocouples over the years. Pretty solid unit. Tankless water heaters are basically the same concept.

The baptism Lt baby burners are absolutely archaic held together with sheet metal screws pray er and wishes There's no safety system to be derived

Do they work Yep they work Are they dangerous As dangerous as a honey enema at a beekeeper's convention

Sure it could be done safely but why

Absolutely wrong. You have several safety systems from the thermocouple that stops the gas from flowing if the pilot goes out. The temperature control that regulates when the burner comes on and goes off. The pressure relief valve that opens at a preset pressure incase the heater starts to over heat. They are simple systems that have been found to be reliable for many years as long as idiots don't tinker with them

Not even close. Turn off the tank and you're golden. They can withstand higher impacts than your vehicle. Get hit hard enough to rupture the tank, you're probably already dead.

Haven't seen many pictures of burning houses caused by propane carpet cleaning heaters. Your responsibility to test your equipment to make sure it's not leaking. I always had a bottle of dish detergent in the truck.

When I was a foolish teen, I took a pair of full 20lb cylinders out to the gravel quarry with a couple friends.
We had a 223 caliber AK47….

I unloaded it into both tanks, and all it did was hiss out propane…

We were expecting a BIG boom, but, nada…

I watched 250 gallon (?) tank pop off next to a burning trailer...........shot a flame higher than the trees for a while and made a cool noise but no boom (although I suppose it could have)

There was that one incident where the fitting rusted out and broke off on the pipe carrying propane to the gas valve on Waldo's LG and created a pretty good fire inside his box truck.
