Are Saturdays a must for an O/O?

Been checking a little and I'm finding not all carpet cleaners are open Saturdays.

Somewhat surprising to me, at times last spring/summer I was working 6-8 Saturdays in a row. Normally only a half day or so and money is always welcome, but it still sucks...

So, would you consider it a necessity for a cleaning biz to be open/work on Saturdays?

Generally, I feel yes. However, my phone lady is getting pretty good at occasionally saying were booked!

I'm so desperate for weekends off I signed up to coach the little fella some soccer. Starting next week eight Saturdays off in a row! Jackpot!

It's personal, I like them off to. But for awhile I would send my son and his helper.

If it's real busy I'll book two routes.

This is the first spring I've started to state we're not able to book Saturday jobs at this time.

My fear is that they'll call a competitor who is willing and become one of their lifetime customers, but so far at least, they've all been willing to make it work during the week.

I didn't go in to business for myself to work 7 or 6 days a week (or even 5 if I can help it!)

Life is short and time is precious. We'll all be on a slab before we know it. Are Saturdays wasted sucking rugs really worth the couple extra dollars in your pocket?

I was a weekend warrior in my previous life.
The day our company was born I vowed to enjoy family time and weekends off.

Sure I could work alot of Saturdays. We just notify clients we are a Monday thru Friday.

Less than 3 sats in 13 yrs.

If I had employee maybe every other weekend they could work

I've also implemented no night work except for cake commercial jobs and even those or afternoon/evening only.

Restaurants I try not to do at all, but the only way I'll take them on is if they can be done in the morning and they're willing to clean at least a couple times a year or more.

Couldn't be near this picky for a number of years when I was getting things rolling, though.

We work every Saturday, mostly commercial carpet cleaning, a crew or two. Water damage guys are usually busy monitoring work too. We try to get out of here by noon or close to it.

Saturdays are for new dink customers who don't trust you to come in during the week unsupervised.

Mostly.

Very true. A majority of bookings who just had to have a Saturday the first time are fine sticking a key under the mat for the next time.

I will work Monday through Saturday, I have only worked 1 Sunday in my life - equipment failure late on Saturday in the middle of a job. Saturday work comes and goes in cycles for me. Sometimes it seems everyone calls looking for Saturday cleanings and other times I try to fill a Saturday and the customers don't want to give up their weekends either. I coach a few soccer teams and fit cleaning in between games.

I would just discourage it by having a higher rate. Then you are less likely to lose a long time customer, more likely to still get the job during the week. Most will understand your reasons. I own a janitorial company so I work almost every night. Hired employees and love it.

Hardly ever work a Saturday unless it's a WDR job.. I leave my Saturday's open for cleanings for friends and family... I don't mind cleaning for free, but it's mostly a barter for something.. Like service for service...

Sunday's I've cleaned for commercial if that's the only available time... Working on the weekends suck and I like my beauty sleep, but it is what it is...

If I ever get married, I'll probably work everyday..... Just to get away.....

I work about 3 saturdays a month. It's rarely a full day worth of work, but like Goomer said, nobody's in your way and you can always charge a little more to make it worth your time. I'm more likely to have a bad day during the week than during a Saturday's worth of work. If I had a crew that pushed the wand for me, I'd probably pick up the wand and do Saturdays on my own, unless it was a water damage job.

Sundays I do about once every 5-7 weeks. It's a restaurant that's closed on Sundays and there's a couple more commercial places that want me to work on that day. I love doing commercial jobs on a Sunday.

We're Owner Operators. When the wand isn't moving...the business isn't growing. GO TO WORK!!! BOY!!!

That's what my dad always yelled at me when I was a kid

We quit our Saturday and Sunday gig recently. Didn't pay enough and we had to get up to early.

I'll work them if the customer insists but I try not to. I need my rest.

I hate residential on Saturdays. That is the clients who want to watch and think you have all day to chat. I however love a good easy commercial where it is just me and my Bluetooth headset. No phone calls, no customers watching, super production rates.

I think they are a must for every cleaner? I don't remember a Saturday we haven't had a full day of jobs. We book the last appointment at 2 to 3pm instead of 4 to 5 like during the week. Sundays though always closed unless it's Commercial.
