LOLThere is an old saying something like "youth is wasted on the young". In my teens I knew all there was to know, in my 20's I was pretty sure I know more than anybody, in the my 30's I realized I wasn't the center of the universe, and in my 40's and now early 50's I know I don;t know squat.
I lived that one, when I was 20 my father sent me to Phoenix to attend a Disaster Cleanup class Lee Pemberton was instructing there.
Being twenty I was just excited to go the big city and see the desert. Going to class was just a means to and end.
I sat in class for two days and took notes, watched slides of some of the nastiest work I had ever seen. All the time I kept thinking "we are carpet cleaners", we don't do this stuff.
Lee was full of information and went into great detail about how to process the work. Where to buy the equipment, the chemicals, how to use them, and how to bill it.
I left thinking yea Lee knows a lot but he doesn't know us, we are carpet cleaners, he just doesn't get it.
A decade later I realized I was in the presence of genius, Lee was man before his time, he was doing all he could to help me and I was to young, too dumb to realize it. Now I realize that Lee knew what we could become, and I was only looking at who we were.
Our company benefited greatly from what little I was able to take away from the class, but nothing like what we could have had I been mature enough to extract all I could from Lee.
Now I'm not knocking Daniel, his calculations look accurate, especially from his perspective, but there are many ways to skin a cat.
What about commercial work?
I'm not talking fast food restaurants or video stores, but corporate work where your job average jumps up there and you're more profitable because your actually producing instead of driving.
Water Damage? Even as a 1-man operation, your customers still have water losses, that are going to be larger tickets than just carpet cleaning.
Pet odor removal? Dirty work, but as with anything undesirable, better pay.
Upholstery specialist? Not the standard care crap that anyone can clean, but the kind that takes more brain and less brawn.
These are just a few , but there are lots of ways to increase your sale without working yourself to death.
