I just had a call from a friend regarding his phone that he had dropped in fuel oil today. The phone immediately shut down, shortly thereafter he was able to start it back up but now it reeks of fuel oil smell but the phone is completely dry now.

I suggested for him to take the phone apart as best he can and fan dry the phone throughout the night and even try placing baking soda nearby. I also recommended him to take the plastic cover off and soak it overnight in water with dawn dish detergent. Any other recommendations to consider?

My experience with fuel odor is time and lots of air movement once the visible ource is cleaned up.

The phone is water resistant so thats probably what saved it. Verizon won't replace because it still works.... Any other thoughts besides forking over a few hundred for a new one?
