5112 miles
166 hours @1.7 per hour fuel consumption would be 282 gallons of fuel used
609 total gallons purchased

so
609
-282
=327 gallons used to figure MPG

so
5112 miles
divided by 327 gallons
= 15.6 MPG

hypothetically speaking

Steve, where did you get the 1.7 gal per hr rating from?

I have seen more like 2 - 2.5 gal per hr. If you figure that then the mpg would be closer to the 10-12 mpg. That is what I normally average as well.

the Vortex web site says 1.6 gph, I have seen ad sheets at local suppliers that state a 1.7 gph rating on them

I know Adam has said the machine will burn 2 to 2.5 gph

I rarely run above 1500 rpm so I would think I probably burn closer to the 2 gph, so I am thinking I get about 14 mpg

I drive the truck on the conserative side and avoid the freeways when possible

My per hour usage was the same as Steve's at 1.5-1.7. I normally ran at 1500 rpm single wanding. I think 2.5 with a 20ft 2.0 lead hose helped as well.

10-11 mpg was what I got. But the guy who bought it said he got 12 mpg driving back to Boise. I don't doubt that a careful driver could milk 14 mpg out of it.

Different model years - different burn rate per hour?
