I've done what I have stated. Not day in and day out but I do try to get more money per job like everyone would I can imagine. Instead of just doing carpet even Ken will say to sell them Scotchgard I am sure.

What we are talking about is Hypothetical at best per day. It's just general idea.

When you state in the first post that making $75.00 in 35 minutes is some how better than $195.00 in two hours I have to challenge you that more money over all is better than an hourly rate.

I would be exagerating tremendously if I ever said 2000 a day day in and day out. We certainly have crews that have those kind of days, but out top 10 or so producers are north of 1000 day in and day out and the next 10-15 crews in the 750-1000 a day avg.

Ken
Ps nothing wrong with any model as long as it helps you accomplish your life goals, which hopefully have to do with other things besides cleaning.

I take what I can get. When I am not booked I will throw a special on the local forum and cut the minimum out with restrictions and it will add a few jobs between the ones I have booked. I would rather have 2 jobs for a total of $340 and instead of going home make 2 quick stops for $45-65 each. $440 is better than $340 on a slow day

I will end my posting on this thread with a lesson taught to me by my mentor in retail Frank Harris. He said never walk past a $5 bill just to pick up a $20 bill further down the way.
Pick the $5 up THEN pick up the $20 when you get there. Once you skip over it it will be gone no need to turn back because someone else picked it up.

This is not an exact quote but I hope you get the idea.

Using ICS mentality you would lose money picking up the $5 because you could pick up the $20 with the exact same amount of energy. No need to bother with the small stuff.

You are putting words in my mouth to support your position, Brian. I never said $75.00 in 35 minutes was better than $195.00 in two hours. All I said was the hourly rate was better in the $75 scenario.

I'm just worried about filling my calendar. That being said, I'd rather fill it with fewer locations. That's the tough part though. Being able to get enough large jobs to fill your schedule is easier said than done.

I hate doing minimum jobs, but if I failed at filling my schedule the way I'd like it, I suck it up, get the small ones done and cash the checks.

Marty,

You did the right thing! Sometimes its not just the money...

We can play math games and what if's forever, and any reasonably intelligent person can make the figures reflect his views, but what about the human factor?

We donate our services (clean for free) many times a year to different people / organizations and do extra's for free where I think that it is most needed.
I may bust your chops once and a while but I applaud your decision to do the right thing.

P.S. Cast your bread upon the water and it will return to you ten fold!

yea you're right. I was just looking deeper into what you were doing. I would have done the same...I have done the same.
It's paid advertisement and sometimes just the right thing to do.

It's just when you started talking about the hourly rate I instantly started thinking about the bottom line.

Well Marty we all have to do what we have to do to make it; I too have been taking a lot of carpet jobs to keep my company afloat; economy has hit my money maker(Janitorial Cleaning Side of the House) really bad; but we get good custy's every once and a while.

It wouldn't bother me one bit if someone called me tomorrow asking me to clean their carpets for $75.00.

Since I don't price first time customers over the phone, I wouldn't be bound to that price until I saw the environment. I had been to the customers home before in the first scenario. If I got to the referrals house and found the exact same conditions, right down to finding a friends daughter, I'd price it the same.

Are you people really that screwed up their in New York?
