I got a magnet system on my rig.

It wasn't cheap either.

I still descal regularly as part of scheduled maintenance.

For a few hundred bucks more think I could have purchased an actual water softner.

Magnetic devices do eliminate scale deposits . . .

if they are top quality devices.

I was at an engineering show where they were featuring a model used by several nuclear reactor installations.

It was several thousand dollars and backed by several university studies.

Hydramaster used the "Forever Clean" model we have sold in "hard water areas",
and was convinced it worked properly.

i have one right where the water comes into the water box. i have never had to descale my machine at 9500 hrs and the little orifice in the front has only clogged a couple of times recently. everybody else in this area has to clean it out at least once a week. i think it was 400. but i'm not sure. i have a friend with the prochem with the orifice in the back which is almost unreachable.
he also added it because of the constant clogging problem. my understanding is that they come standard on commercial ice makers.

HydroForce sells the Forever Clean. But I am not convinced they work. I would not recommend putting your money there. For not much more you can get a water softener that uses technology with a long history of proven performance.

You must be magnetic Lee? :p

Quite a few years ago we used them and they sure seemed to help. Can't explain it, I know eveyone says it shouldn't work but it seemed to extended the time between descaling without an on board softner.

We eventually went to softwater here in the plant so now we carry soft water and don't the magnets any longer. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but if they aren't toomuch it might be work trying. ???

I've used one like a straw and sucked beer thru it.

I swear it cleared up my thinking .

Have to agree with Lee. Salts in water are electrically neutral, therefore they cannot be attracted to a magnet. However, a magnet could attract small iron pieces keeping them out of the pump. Of course this would not work with copper or rust.
