The other day I went to Home Depot to rent a concrete drill. Don't ask.........all you need to know is that now it's six feet under and it ain't coming back.
Anyhow, it cost $39.00 for 4 hours rental. For a drill that costs about $210.00 and that did not include the concrete drill bit ($21.95 thank you very much) or even a drill operator. A little over 15% of the drill's actual value.
That got me thinking: Boy, have we got it wrong! We should be renting our services.
So you own a decent truck mount, say about $40,000 value, including the van and all the trimmings. Once the job is completed, done with all the traditional niceties and sincere 'moments of truth'.
You say: "Mrs. Jones, That will be four hours rental of our time, at the discounted price of 15% of gross value, that will be only $6,000.00. Will that be in cash, check or credit?"
And to think that most of us bdcc here struggle for a measly 40 cents per s.f.
Have we got a marketing problem or what?
