This is a friend of mine that cleaned a wool carpet with his portable and this spot appeared the next day after the cleaning. He thinks it was something that dripped out of his portable.

I gave him a little encap and told him to lightly spray some on a white towel and wipe the spot and see if that would remove it. At that time I had not seen the spot. He called me to say that after trying to clean with the encap, it did nothing for the spot, so I told him to send me a photo and I would try and find a answer.

Looks like dirty water coming out of the exhaust of his portable. Reclean and as Jimmy says, apply some browning treatment.

I use an EDIC Galaxy and we've learned to always leave it sitting on a quilted moving blanket, in case it foams and blows moisture onto the floor. It doesn't happen often.

Tell your friend to use a bit more defoamer, watch his waste tank levels and set the machine where it won't burp on anything that will damage.

If you use Procyon you won't have any foaming issues unless you hit residue from previous cleanings.

I have an aluminum waste tank so I don't like using salt based products.

I am not sure if it was suggested as such. However, while Procyon Extreme is Wool safe, Procyon Plus is not.

As jimmy suggested, sure looks like cellulosic browning to me. Pull corner and see backing. If you see a jute backing or foundation, most likely it is. Rinsing is not going to do much unless some residue got on the carpet and may expand the browning. If you do be on the acid side and use minimum of water as to avoid backing and more browning.

Use a wool safe browning treatment. Sometime finishing by buffing with a bonnet may help, only if the wool is tight and can take it and not become fuzzy. One needs to be careful though as some of the browning treatments contain bisulfite and over doing it may create a halo. Put a fan to help it dry fast.

What Ofer and the Rev Ladwig said - also if old it may have waffle underlay that has partially broken down and fillers have wicked through

Problem solved, Thanks to all, the browning treatment worked great.
It's what's known as a "pH shift". It's quite common with wool. Most of the time it's easily corrected using an acid. Glad you were able to fix it.

We had a similar issue with a rug two weeks ago. Lady sent it out to a carpet cleaner who cleaned it using alkaline chemicals, causing the rug to turn reddish. She shipped it to us from Arizona. All we did to fix it was apply an acid.
