Has anyone done this with much success?

In just the last week there have been quite a few posts about vac motors and parallel vs series, 5.7's, 6.6's, and 8.4's.

I was thinking about trying to build an ETM, have a fresh and recovery tank of maybe 80 gallons or so.

A pump that can do 1000 psi and up to 3 gpm.
Diesel or propane fired burner.
Small pump out

I have been really happy with my ninja now that I put those 3 stage vac motors in there and added the third cord for the heater, really hasn't ever been a problem finding power either. My goal with this project would be to be able to do larger jobs without having to fill and empty 50 times and pack all my crap in and out. I would install a relay board I can control with my phone so I can turn things on an off from the middle of the house as needed. I am usually O/O with the occasional helper. Things could be run from a generator or a few cords ran into the house. I would like to be able to run off two cords for small jobs and then if needed plug in a 3rd or even 4th cord for longer runs and have it power additional vac motors.

I would be really grateful for this on jobs which are second floor apartments, jobs which are just a few rooms or smaller, that way there isnt as much setup and tear down. Also I could have more heat, flow, and suck than I am currently having.

Cord 1: The pump I found pulls 18 amps. That is at 1000 PSI and 3gpm. I am sure that when the pressure is turned down the amperage is less. It could be run on the same cord as the heat in most cases. I was looking at the northstar diesel burner for heat. It pulls 5 amps on start and 3 continuous.

Cord 2: two vac motors. If I could find two that pulled 20 amps together, then for cord 3 and 4 have some stronger ones added on powered by a generator for those longer runs. I would run 2: hose everwhere which I what I am currently doing with my ninja, and I think I have run 75' no problem. I'm trying to remember if I have done 100'or even 125. I need to play with it a little more.

Hell, maybe set it up as a 3 cord minimum machine. I Think I could pull that on most houses. and where I cant it can run on generator.

Tear into me and tell me what you think...

A small truckmount where you can just pull up pull some hoses and be self contained would make your work so much easier.

I want to have something powerful enough that it can do everything I might ever need. So for that same 5-10 grand could I build an ETM that could perform close to that? Has anyone ever hooked an electric motor to a blower?

That is called a Bane Clene. Research them and see if that is what you want. The biggest motor that I have seen on AC 120v is 1 1/2 hs or 1 3/4 hs. More than that you will be looking at DC or 220 AC. Where are you going to find that in house or at a commercial job.

The specs on those are not all that great. 150 psi. 170 degrees. .6gpm. my porty does better than that. let me look at the specs on some of the other models to make sure.

My performance from my ninja has been great, I just need more pressure to run a spinner and want more flow, heat, and not to have to fill and dump all the time. I want it to be easily self serviceable. With my current setup I can replace and fix anything on my machine, and I would like it to be the same for this machine. I can swap vac motors easily and replace pump seals. generator would need oil changes and minimal maintenance. Plus I would get a generator out of this deal, a nice one, that I can write off and use for anything else I need one for.

Pointless.

For that money and effort, you could just go with a normal pd blower truckmount.

Just don't use your diesel or propane ETM indoors or near front doors where the carbon monoxide could kill you or others.

I tried to do the same thing when I first started. I got ahold of this portable called The Stinger made by mighty. Best portable I ever owned. Decent heat, decent vac for a portable. Wish I had not sold it. Added a booster vac from Ed Valentine. Is he still around? It added a bit more vac. But the problem was now I was hauling around cords, machines, etc etc. then popping circuit breakers. It wasn't until being at a customers home that I realized it was time to move up to a TM. I'll never forget the look on my customers face when he saw me running around his house looking for the right combo of outlets after popping circuits a few times. It was then I had enough.
Any TM you get will require maintenance at even the simplest level. You are already mechanically inclined so that part will be easy. Everything has a trade off. Look into which TM is going to be the most dependable with the most power. Go for simplicity. Skip the bells and whistles as they will create more problems then they are worth.

Cheers

As far as truckmounts are concerned I have thought about a Judson or the Steamway units. Share your thoughts about each of these.

Part of all of this. I am poor right now, want to build and peice something together, also want it to be where I can work on it myself and cheap to maintain. Don't really mind chasing circuits, as it is I use between 3-5 on any job. I just want longer hose runs and larger tanks, more heat too.

I am currently operating out of a trailer and will keep things that way. Works okay for me. Right now I have a small single axle 6x10 that is stuffed right now and slightly over the weight limit. If I built something I could shuffle things around a little, not add too much weight, and shove it at the very front of the trailer, vac motors sitting on top and accessible. That way most of the weight would be on the front of the trailer and sitting more on the truck than anything.

I also really like to tinker. I think it would be fun to use something every day that I could say I built.

Back to Judsons.... I really like that the whole system runs on propane, I currently have a large bottle mounted on the front of the trailer that runs a heater, wouldn't be hard to splice all that in. I like simple and being able to work on it all myself. Plus I think he might bring one over to ICE and I could pick it up there since I'm here in Southern Utah about 2 hours from Vegas.

I have thought of all kinds of crap. So you know how air conditioners work? I have thought about putting one of those units in and having the coil instead of being outside and air cooled have it run through the fresh tank and that way its heating your water while cooling the trailer. fun stuff. Would be really expensive and a pain, but I like to dream and figure all this crap out.

How many PSI and GPM would I need or want? I see many TM's with 5gpm 1500psi pumps, is this necessary? 1000PSI 3gpm should be more than enough, right? What's needed to run a zipper SS or any of those larger flow tools?

I'd pick the Judson over the Steamway.

But I'd look for a used Prochem Legend first. No need for new. Look for a good used heat exchange unit. There are always plenty of good deals on used. Check the local Craigslist. Check with John at Superior, he usually has a few good ones.

No need for new when used makes you the same money.

Who are you and where are you from? Just curious. I have talked with John a little and that is what I might do.

Me? Tony Stark. The Marvel world of Avengers. You've not heard of us? Damn. No TV in Utah?

Stick with John, he will sell you or find you a good used unit. He doesn't want problems, so you can trust it is what he says it is.

Whatcha turkin bout Willis?

For decades it was the machine for all the franchises. Its a step up from a Blazer and has a plenty powerful vacuum and some are mounted on a 60 gallon fresh. Not high heat but you don't have the heat issues with secondary fuel.
DUDE!
