Al asked me to post progress photos of his unit. Normally we paint our units with epoxy, but we are polishing this unit out for Al. So far it seems to be turning out fairly nice.

Hey Les! That looks swell! Now will those swirls peel if they get wet? JK. Keep up the good work. Painting a TM is like... I don't know what it is like. It's just stupid because it looks like shit in no time. One mans opinion but the important thing is I am right and the rest of the world is wrong.

I thought maybe you could put some Snake oil on it and let er rip.

How to become a Snake Oil salesman?

Kinda like becoming a Coke Dealer.. Give em a free taste and they are hooked.

Why I even know a guy that lubes up his Vegetarian Sandwich with Snake oil.

Al,

This is not the final finish on the machine. This is just photos of us getting started on it. I will post photos of the machine after we finish polishing it.

OK. I guess humor doesn't come across well in print. I was just joking about the finish coming off when it gets wet. I was referring to paint getting undermined by water and rust and peeling.

I bet you raised it that high so you could see just how far the fuel pump would pull/push up hill.

What is the box sitting next to the blower? Is it meant to eliminate an elbow?

Chris,

I haven’t answered your question, because we did not do a fuel burn test until today. We are shipping Al’s machine tomorrow. We did a fuel burn test today under maximum performance: engine rpm 3600, vacuum set at 14” of mercury. This is how the machine would be configured for dual wand cleaning. The fuel consumption was less than 1.6 gallons per hour.

The unit will sustain 240 degrees on two standard flow wands. Each wand will produce 275 cfm. The maximum air that can be used through a glided wand is 225 cfm. The propane burn for the dual wand configuration is .9 of one gallon of propane per hour. We are extremely satisfied with these numbers because we are talking about dual wand configuration.

When single wanding with this unit, these operating cost numbers will be approximately one half of the cost of running dual wand. If you were going to compare this unit with a heat exchange unit, you would have to have a slide in heat exchanger with a very large 4 cylinder engine with a HP rating of around 60.

The total operating cost of this unit will be more than what the Lunch Pail is, but slide in units with big 4 cylinder engines cannot maintain 240 on two standard flow wands. When you look at the operating cost of this unit and then look at the component replacement cost, especially the engine, the 35 HP Briggs engine replacement cost is around $2100 - 2300. This engine is a very common engine that can be serviced at any Briggs and Stratton service center, which are very common compared to other small engines.

The biggest advantage of the Lunch Pail over a heat exchange unit, is the simple design. It will be a lot more reliable, very easy to repair yourself if needed, more performance than a heat exchange unit, life expectancy will outlast 4 - 6 heat exchange units.

If the operating cost savings of the Lunch Pail was just $2 pr hour versus a heat exchanger with a large 4 cylinder engine, and the Lunch Pail engine only lasted 4,000 hours, that is an $8,000 operating cost savings when it comes time to replace the engine. So basically, the replacement engine is free. Plus you get around $5500 cash to boot.

I'm impressed with the 35 briggs Big Block, apparantly it runs velvety smooth and doesn't burn much more fuel than the Kohler 30 which is also air cooled (no water pump/radiator) one less thing to go wrong 2000 hours down the road.

Now we need some single wand (25-2900 rpms) estimates on fuel consumption.

I guessing, the same reason everyone uses tri-lobes today, smaller sin wave to quiet, also that particular blower is robust.

edit: Okay...we should call it a V-wave as in Vawter.

Bob, I think Les was just splitting the "potential" cfm given from GD bench testing, he did point out the lower 225cfm number of what he thinks is actually passing through a glided wand.
As most here will testify, anything over 200cfm and 10"hg gives very good extraction.

OK, Greenie. I see your edit.

Yes, it is more than adequate for extracting using 2 wands.

I'm sure Al will love using that truckmount.

It brings back great memories, I had a 68. Those were the days.
What are you planning on doing with that beauty?

Slant six? about 20 miles to the gallon? Oh wait the motor isn't even broke in yet.

The motor behind the seat in the cargo area. That would be a cool design to put a direct drive unit in. Not much room in back though.
