a friend called me last night.
He owns a pressure washing outfit

he told me his pump is dripping a little bit but otherwise holds pressure and sprays as always

he says the outfit he bought his pressure washer from wants $900 to rebuild his pump

He asked if I could rebuild it.
I asked him to get me the model number

he hasn't got back to me yet, but I've seen it before, it looks like a big General to me.
Think it's 6GPM or more range @4000psi

I've rebuilt Cat pumps (seals and valves) but never monkeyed with a General.
are they that much different that $900 rebuild is "normal"??

I asked what exactly they were replacing/rebuilding and he didn't know.
I also asked if he froze it..he said no

Larry;

We rebuild some very large General pumps used on some AT TM's.

The parts do cost several hundred for pump seals (3).

Replacing the pump seals should be ~$400 or so.

If they are replacing the oil seals also, the price would be more.

Thanks Jimbo

I got a bit more info.
It's 8gpm , 3600 psi

This is a big trailer/truck mounted pressure washing unit with 25HP Kolher and 300K+ BTU kero heat
Runs 2 to 4 guns depending on gun jetting

I also found out it DID freeze
