How would you deal with this?

Customer with 2 dogs gets their carpet cleaned every 3 months and always locks 1 dog in a restroom and the other is always held by the lady while the carpets are cleaned. Wednesday our tech was cleaning the carpets and the lady turns this little dog loose and it runs out the door and takes off. The owner said not to worry the dog would come back and the tech calls us to say what happened and then leaves.
5 hours later the daughter calls cussing up a storm about how its our fault the dog got out and I told her they have had their carpets cleaned enough that they know the door is going to be open and the dog needed to be secured. She is now saying that if we dont give her a free carpet cleaning next month she will "tell everyone the carpets look like shit after cleaning" because the dog didnt come back.

2 things!

-Have a an attorney, draft a letter on his letterhead regarding the particulars of your conversations and mail it to her as a certified letter stating that you will take legal action if needed.
-A day after the letter is mailed call her and explain to her (nicely) that the legal term for what she is doing is Coercion & Slander by claiming you did poor job and trying to manipulate you into free work.

She's probably doing this because it's worked for her before!

Find the nearest Chinese restaurant, tell her you cleaned their tile, saw a collar that looked like their dogs beside the dumpster, and found it odd they were just putting up a buy one get one free general tso's meal deal
