I told her to keep her mouth shut at the senior center.
Last job today was 2 pm, a real quick living room dining room stairs.
Long time regular retired client.
Job done, and chit chatting.
She mentioned she got a new TV, I look over and see an old TV about 20 inches deep.
She replies, oh.. not that one. I've been afraid to take it out of the box, and was going to call the local cable company to see if they would.
She also bought a new TV stand she put together. She did a nice job.
So I tell her. I'm done for the day, just let me take care of it.. She hesitated, then said.. Are ya sure? So many wires, oh it is pretty technical.
Helped her move the old TV aside, brought in the new stand, unpacked the 42 inch TV. Set it up, connected cable, DVD and wow!!!!! People still have this? WEBTV.
Set it all up, showed her how to use the remote, tested everything.
She was pretty tankful, as she has had the TV for 2 weeks, was not sure who to call. To her all these wires beyond her.
Took less than 30 mins.
I know what many of you will say. Liability, oh, if something breaks tomorrow I'll be blamed. Blaa Blaa Blah..
That is why I told her, don't go blabbing... I don't need every widowed woman in a 10 mile radius thinking I'm a handy man.
She offered to pay, I said, no thank you. Oh please, what do I owe you? You all ready paid me for carpet cleaning, the TV was me just being a neighbor.
She demanded I take $40.00 and handed it to me. Then stated, I'm sure it is worth a lot more.
I don't post this, to brag I made $40.00 ( ha ha ) but just this is a routine act for me on varying leaves. I'll offer a help hand to some of my clients when I can, and like I said, not to try charge them for it. But an act of being a neighbor. And ya think shit like this does not earn me more money in the long term?
I pick and choose when and what to get involved in, I use my judgement.
