White pads are for polishing wood floors, red pads are for spray buffing and brown pads are for stripping or very deep scrubbing.

I use the tan pads to agitate prespray on horrific carpets but other than that i use crb machine to encap. It has its place.

Personally first used red floor pad on carpet in 1982.

Was doing a Wendy's in paducah and the brush broke on the Vibra-vac. My employee at the time was aghast.
